WOZ Playbill _Proof

Dear Theatre Arts

Dear Theatre Arts Patrons ~ Welcome to River Place Student Theatre’s 11th production The Wizard of Oz River Place Student Theatre (RPST) is a volunteer-driven non-profit 501© 3 organization that gives students zoned to River Place Elementary the opportunity to be part of a professional musical theatre experience. I want to thank all our talented young actors and actresses who have worked so hard to make this magical journey come to life. The Wizard of Oz is made possible by generous community donors and more than 80 volunteers who have worked tirelessly to bring Creative Director, Dionn Schaffner and Musical Director, Ruthie Long’s visions to life. It takes a village to produce a show of this caliber and our community is blessed with many talented people. A dedicated volunteer created everything you see tonight – from the costumes to the sets to the choreography. A show is truly a labor of love and I have been fortunate to know and work with the amazing women on the RPST Board during this most challenging personal year. Thank you for your long hours of work, your patience, and your dedication. I also want to thank all of RPST’s amazing parent volunteers for donating your time and talent. The show could not go on without you! The Wizard of Oz has represented a time of exploration and a new direction for RPST. The goal for this year was to explore a classic and find new ways of bringing life to a classic. In the midst of putting together a show, you always realize how much we are part of a community that loves the arts and how blessed we are to be in the midst of friends, neighbors, and businesses that are patrons of the arts. Many of our alumni are already following their love for musical theatre and taking their talents to many other stages. It is a proud moment when any of us gets to witness one of their performances. We know that it all started in this stage, under these lights, and under our loving watch. Thank you to all of you for being here tonight and for suspending disbelief for 2 hours of pure magic. Imagination is a powerful gift and each of these actors has made a little part of Kansas and a little part of Oz possible tonight. There is power in words and Glinda said it best when she said, “You always had the power my dear, you just had to learn how to use it.” 8

Every little actor and actress will be using their power tonight to show you a little magic thru the power of their craft. Every single one of them represents a hope and a dream and we are honored to be part of their journey as they follow their own Yellow Brick Road. Finally, I want to thank all our community partners: Thank you to our Presenting Sponsor, Dr. RJ Jackson and the entire RJ Orthodontics Team -- You Make RPST Smile! Thank you to The Church at Canyon Creek and Damon Andrews for all of your help, time and effort for these 11 years. We are so grateful for you! Thank you to River Place Country Club for the use of the space and continued support for the students and families of RPST. Thank you to our very talented Musical Director, Ruthie Long. We are so grateful for you! Thank you, CJ, for always being there for RPST. You are a rock star! Thank you to Frederick Graber for your incredible creativity and artistic vision in designing and painting our fabulous sets. Thank you to our incredible panel of judges who donated their time during call backs and had the incredibly hard task of casting our show: Julia Barnett, Scott Shipman, and Megan Weston. Thank you to River Place Elementary Principal Tina Pasak and RPE’s Kim Grant for their continued support during our entire season. Thank you to Four Points Community for giving RPST the opportunity to foster the Arts and with your continued support, we look forward to more fabulous productions because there is, “no place like home.” Ivonne Mercado, RPST President (and dedicated volunteer for 9 years) 9
