News brand For news updates and more information log on to daily India ranks third among top 10 countries in USGBC survey The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the creators of the LEED green building program, yesterday announced the annual top 10 countries and regions for LEED. The list recognises markets outside the U.S. that are using LEED to create healthier, more sustainable spaces for the citizens. India ranked third, with more than 752 LEED-certified projects totaling more than 20.28 million gross sq mt of space. China ranked first, with a total of 1,211 LEED certified and registered projects for more than 47.16 million gross sq mt of space followed by Canada with 2,970 such projects with a total space of 40.77 million gross sq mt. The other countries include Brazil, Germany, Korea, Taiwan, Turkey, Mexico and the UAE. “Around the world leaders are committing to climate change initiatives that have the power to improve quality of life for citizens and ensure a sustainable future for us all,” said Mahesh Ramanujam, President and CEO, USGBC and Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI). The list ranks countries and regions in terms of cumulative LEED-certified gross square meters as of December 31, 2017 and represents 6,657 certified projects totaling more than 158 million gross square meters. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is the world’s most widely used green building program with projects in more than 167 countries and territories, with more than 205,800 gross sq mt of space certifying everyday. Merino opens its experience centres in New Delhi & Kolkata Merino Group opened their “Merino Experience Centre” (MEC) in Delhi and Kolkata. Urban Ladder to offer ESOPs to attract talent Furniture player Urban Ladder is joining the ESOP bandwagon and is set to offer ESOPs in order to attract senior-level talent, as per the MCA documents filed by the company. As per the documents, in order to “attract senior-level employees” and to conserve the immediate cash requirements for remunerating them, the board has sought approval from shareholders to give authority to the ESOP committee of the board to “grant options exceeding 1% of the issued capital of the company” to identified employees. The move comes a few months after Urban Ladder received a Single Brand Merino Experience Centre in Delhi Merino Experience Centre in Kolkata Retail Trade (SBRT) licence from the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP). Urban Ladder had applied for the single brand licence in September last year when it announced a shift in its business model from online retail to becoming a furniture brand. The company also launched its first experience centre in Bengaluru last year, which was to be converted into an offline retail store. The Urban Ladder team now aims to be profitable in the next 18 to 20 months and file an IPO within three years.
