on some new ideas and are working out specially with furniture made in woven rope. These are made with polypropylene UV resistant ropes imported from Germany which are extremely flexible to give shape to any form and being all weather proof. They are also using a hyacinth twisted fiber made in high density polyethylene in pure organic colour which they had recently supplied to a upmarket restaurant project ‘Moondance’ in Pokhara, Nepal. The restaurant wanted environmentally sustainable material which could last in extremely cold weather conditions and in high traffic commercial area for which this new breed of fiber was a blessing. Amit always got drawn to unique designs and hands on manufacturing, “As a child, I was introduced to a small workshop owned by my mother who is a very talented designer. The noise of hammers, visuals of machines drilling & cutting, the smell of paints, metal welding & saw dust would never bother me, in fact, I just loved it. I would look forward to my visit to the factory whenever I got a chance. My mother would stand next to a new prototype of a chair, assessing it from various angles & then giving precise instruction to straighten the back by a few millimetre & reducing the depth by a few centimeters. I would admire her perfectionism and subconsciously imbibe the need for precision. The basics of design & love for art originated from that workshop.” reveals Sawhney. “I have unparalleled love for all the beautiful natural materials bestowed on us. I love to combine various metals, wood, natural wicker, weaves, textures into a truly unique furniture piece. Innovative combinations of traditional materials designed to contemporary urban taste has become my signature style” adds Amit. Sawhney feels strongly about eco-friendly practices “I believe in giving back to nature which provides us with such bounty of raw materials to play with. We have been following green manufacturing practices since inception. I take pride in the fact that we planted more than One Thousand plants at our new studio space. Stepping out of concrete walls and ‘Moving Closer To Nature’ has been my go to mantra! I really value creative display and have strived to offer an out of the box shopping experience for our elite loyal clientele.” says the designer. 48 Architecture Update February 2018
