She helped the Eagles to win their first regional title Feb. 3 at the Brooks Regional at Castaways Bowl in Calumet City. What was the feeling like for the team when you won the regional title? After we won, we were so happy that we thought we won the lottery. We bowled a 1,044 game [in Game No. 2] and and everyone on the team bowled a (195) or better in that game. We were really happy. place your Classified Ad! Call 708.326.9170 How did you get involved in bowling? I remember bowling with my dad, Bill, and my older sister Kristen when I was around 5. I kept throwing gutter ball after gutter ball. I hated it. But I picked it up later on at age 8, and I’ve loved it ever since. Do you play any other sports? I played soccer as a freshman. Then, I did cross country on the varsity team this past fall. I just wanted to try it [cross country], but I still like bowling better. What is it about bowling that makes it the sport for you? Ever since I started bowling again with my dad, I’ve been really competitive. So, I enjoy the competitiveness. I also like to be around all the people on the team and at the lanes. What is your favorite bowling lanes? My favorite in Illinois is Palos Lanes. That’s because my parents were in a league there, and I used to go with them to bowl. That was where I bowled my first 100 at age 8. It felt like a 300. But my all-time favorite lanes is a Brunswick Zone in Arizona. It was really cool, and I like it because it’s warm there. Have you ever bowled a 300? No. My highest is a 276. That was against Lockport a couple of months ago. I believe I had eight strikes to start. 22nd Century Media File Photo How many bowling balls do you have? I have four, but I only use three now. I don’t use my spare ball anymore. That’s because it just doesn’t hook as much now. What have you learned from Sandburg girls bowling coach Joe Geiger? He doesn’t like it when we’re sad or upset. Whenever we are, he tells us to get rowdy. He loves to joke around with us and keep us loose. Do you plan on bowling in college? I would like to bowl in college, I think that would be fun. But I want to got to college in Florida or Arizona, where it’s warmer. I want to go into a field where I do something that has to do with movies or TV. What’s the best thing about being an athlete at Sandburg? Just the team for bowling. We have a bunch of goofballs on the team. And at Sandburg, we also have a lot of good teams.
