ada,” said defenseman Nathan
Purpura, of Mokena.
“It was probably the best
time I ever had playing
hockey. Overall playing for
team USA versus Canada
was amazing. The experience
to play with a team and
trying to win a championship
for USA is incredible,”,
said Orland Park native and
team forward Nathan Petrusevski.
“It was pretty cool representing
our country. I think
we all felt pretty excited
that we were able to pull off
the win,” said Grant Illsley,
of Orland Park, who was the
team Goalie for the championship
game.
“It was a great experience
when we won it [Nations
Cup] and all the USA kids
came on the ice and were
all cheering ‘USA! USA!’”
said defenseman Nick Mistro,
of Mokena.
The players received
medals for their win against
Canada and guaranteed a return
to the tournament this
year, according to Holke.
With this season now
winding down it’s no time
for the team to let up. The
Vikings have to keep up
the intensity if they want to
make an impact in the state
playoffs and the NIHL tournament.
The team will be traveling
to Crystal Lake this
month for its upcoming
NIHL playoff games. The
finals are scheduled to take
place in March in Joliet.
