Usertests Gear to go Andy Jenkinson reports on his recent tests of two products relevant to any caravanner Vision Plus 21.5in ★★★★ Price £279 Weight 2.8kg Power 12 V 2.5 A Warranty 3 years Features USB record and playback, Full HD terrestrial and satellite tuners, one-touch tune, CD/DVD player, 2x 3W speakers, headphone socket More information www.visionplus. co.uk, 0115 986 7151 Tested with Status 530 and 570 aerials It’s surprising how many caravanners and motorhome users put up with a low-priced portable telly that isn’t designed for use in a motorhome or tourer, with the associated jolting about and the need to receive broadcasts in a variety of situations. There are a fair few dedicated models on the market, however, of which this is a good example. Since July last year, we’ve been testing the 21.5in screen from Vision Plus, makers of the familiar Status TV aerials. They have a range of three sizes, the others being 18.5 and 23.5in – smaller than a typical living room TV, for obvious reasons. It’s easy to store, and comes with a removable carrying handle and combined stand. The small transformer has 12-volt and mains leads, while the aerial socket is easy to locate. An easy-to-operate DVD player is built in, and can also be used to play CDs. The backlit LED picture gives a very sharp image, supporting up to Full HD (1080p) resolution. Setup is simple and the auto tune function seeks out stations speedily. The TV has two HDMI inputs, and as well as built-in speakers there’s a headphone socket. We haven’t yet tried the recording system, which records only from Freeview channels to a USB stick and has a seven-day timer. The Vision Plus has worked well, and compared to an off-the-peg portable set the picture and sound quality is superior. We’ve used the TV both in and out of vans and it gets plenty of handling. So far this TV has been brilliant, and excellent value for money. Picture Andy Jenkinson Winners Wax ★★★★★ Liquid 500ml £8.94 Detailer (spray) 500ml £6.95 More information www.killerbrands. co.uk, 0208 445 6811 I’m always on the lookout for new polishes that provide great protection and cleaning power, not to mention easy application. I found Winners at the Classic Car Show in Birmingham last November, and company owner Colin let me have the products mentioned here to try out for myself. Their liquid wax is easy to apply. Used sparingly, and allowed to dry for a few minutes, it’s easy to wipe off to a great shine. It offers a smooth finish and, with a cutting agent, takes any blemishes away. We tried it on a rather grubby 2008 Lunar Delta. A tough job, but Winners took the grime away and added a gloss shine that beads well after rain and washing. It’s great on dark colours, as well as metallic, and brings a shine to washed tourer/ motorhome windows. The spray version is for a quick go-over after a wash and dry, and tops up the liquid protection. Having used the wax over winter on caravans and car, it’s a polish wax worthy of five stars. winter 2017 Scottish Caravans & Motorhomes 49
