Parkreview Idyllic

Parkreview Idyllic Invercoe Stunning scenery surrounds a favourite caravan and camping park in the heart of Glencoe, writes Bob Mather Pictures BoB Mather I hooked up the test van and headed for Glencoe to explore this beautiful part of Scotland. As I drove by Stirling and Callendar the rain was quite persistent, but as I entered the Trossachs area the skies began to clear and by the time I reached Tyndrum it had turned into a lovely day. With the sun cascading over the mountain tops, the drive through Glencoe couldn’t have been better. Arriving in Glencoe Village, I turned along beside Loch Leven and into Invercoe Highland Holidays’ caravan and camping park. As the owner and his wife were taking a short break after a busy summer season, it was his son Lorne who welcomed me to the park. He wasted no time in guiding me to a super pitch right on the waterfront of the loch. With the sun high in the sky, the view up the loch was at its very best, Invercoe Highland Holidays Glencoe, Argyll PH49 4HP Telephone 01855 811210 Website Open all year round. After a little refreshment, I couldn’t miss the opportunity to get the camera out and set off round the park. The main area of the Invercoe park consists of both hard standing and grass pitches for caravans and motorhomes. The loch-front area is all hard-standing pitches, which each have electrics, water and drainage. There are plenty of grass areas for tents, and a super camping kitchen structure gives the campers all the catering they need. Toilet block facilities are of an excellent standard, with laundry and disabled areas included. With just four units available, Ready Camp doesn’t feel crowded and the site facilities are nearby There and back Having photographed most areas of the park, I returned to the van for a quick cuppa before heading out northwards with the car, taking in the wonderful view every time I turned a corner. I arrived in Fort William with the sun still high in the sky – one of the few times I have been in Fort William when the sun was shining! After a couple of hours seeing the sights and doing a little bit of shopping, I decided to have a meal before returning to the park. I found a 88 Scottish Caravans & Motorhomes Winter 2017

super café and they served me up a delicious meal that set me up for the journey back, which was if anything even more spectacular than the journey in. The shadows were lengthening and creating such patterns on the hillside, it wasa truly memorable journey. Arriving back at the park, the views were just as spectacular as the sunset between the mountains cast a red glow over the loch. I just sat outside the van with a cuppa and enjoyed every minute. The following morning, I was up early for a walk into the village of Glencoe and up to the local shop to pick up rolls and a paper. On my return to the van I could see the clouds gathering in the west, which was a pity after such a marvellous day before. After enjoying a quick breakfast, I managed to catch up with Lorne for a chat. He reminded me that they trade under the name of Invercoe Highland This page: Loch Leven and Glencoe provide the dramatic backdrop for this picturesque site Opposite, from top: Invercoe offers a range of accommodation options as well as touring pitches; campers are well catered for with kitchen and toilet blocks; hard-standing pitches have electrics, water and drainage Holidays, reflecting the many types of accommodation available on site beyond just caravan and camping pitches. Over and above the 60 touring pitches, there are now two glamping pods, three Maclain holiday cottages (built to a traditional specification but with all mod cons), timber lodges and comfortable holiday homes. There’s something to suit every taste, and all situated in probably the most well-known and picturesque glens in Scotland. They certainly have a mighty sound package to offer here. Sun and rain By the time we’d finished talking, the rain had come on, and I decided to head for home. The drive back up through the glen was entirely different from the sunlit skies of the day before, but had a different beauty, with the mist and rain sweeping down the mountains. Passing the Glenshee Ski Centre, I was reminded that it wouldn’t be long before the year turned to winter sports. The rest of my journey home was uneventful but one of contentment, having visited one of my favourite parks in Scotland. winter 2017 Scottish Caravans & Motorhomes 89
