...it is the grass that suffers. On the 9 July 2012 the two youngest countries in the world celebrate their first birthdays. To mark the occasion, journalists from Sudan and South Sudan came together to report on the development of both nations in the second edition of The Niles. The proverb about the two elephants, which is popular in both countries, has become a fitting leitmotif. How much the grass actually suffers, how the elephants are affected and what that has to do with relationships between people, are all explored in the collection of stories, pictures and songs from Sudan and South Sudan.

The Latin colonial architectural<br />
beauty and the scent of the blooming<br />
jasmine creepers announcing the<br />
arrival of the early cool evening<br />
breeze.<br />
Papa Costa, the Greek community<br />
god father had played a very<br />
important role in representing his<br />
peaceful and highly entrepreneuring<br />
community in the capital.<br />
He lived in this colonial villa for<br />
several decades during which he<br />
pioneered by opening the first modern<br />
bakery in Sudan in the 1950’s.<br />
Papa Costa’s hot buns and French<br />
bread sticks are still remembered to<br />
this day as the best in quality and<br />
delicious taste.<br />
Most of us older generations still<br />
remember what special treat<br />
it was to have bread and cakes from<br />
Papa Costa.<br />
We have made a considerable effort<br />
to revive this unique old colonial villa<br />
to its original state aiming to bring<br />
back that natural relaxing setting just<br />
like a true oasis in the middle of down<br />
town Khartoum.<br />
