MEMORIAL ACCESSORIES BEAUTY TREATMENTS (CLEANING AND CONSERVATION). Stainless steel (acid-proof) This manual is aimed to provide useful tips. Which can help our customers keep stainless steel products in total corrosion resistance. One of the advantages of this fabric is its own transparent passive protective layer. Even when the layer is damaged mechanically in the presence of air and oxygen it rebuilds itself to resist corrosion. This phenomenon explains why stainless steel doesn’t require protection against corrosion keeps the stainless steel products shiny even after years of use. You need to be aware that this kind of protection can only be provide on clean metallic surfaces, that’s why routine treatments are obligatory. With external applications, stainless steel could be exposed to a number of aggressive environmental impacts to through contacting the following factors: -pollution from industrial activities, - the proximity of the marine environment, -winter road maintenance agents, etc. Therefore it is necessary to conduct appropriate interventions 2 to 4 times a year, to keep the stainless steel products appearance unchanged for years. It is recommended to wash the products with warm water with addition of mild detergents, then rinse with clean water and wipe with a soft cloth. The more the environment is contaminated the more often you should be taking care of your stainless steel products. It is unadvised to use harsh (aggressive) cleaning chemicals or scratchy clothes. We also put very high requirements to stone masons and memorial companies which are installing our accessories on the headstones. Accidental damage caused by stone splashes or abrasive materials may be the reason for socalled “pitting corrosion”. Also try to avoid cement mounting for the accessories. The best way of mounting is to use special adhesives. Every kind of dirt (especially on the sides if letters) should be cleaned off. Used mounting elements (eg. screws) are also made of stainless steel. Touching carbon steel is unadvised. We hope our clients will be convinced to choose stainless steel accessories, by keeping to the above recommendations. High-end materials, high quality and proper treatments will help preserve the immutable high aesthetic values of our memorial accessories. Patinated bronze (black oxide) Our special method for patinated bronze elements has been used for 35 years and it is one of our clients expectations (patinated bronze doesn’t cause stone damage). The care process boils down to washing bronze elements with clean water with addition of mild detergents, rinsing and drying. The next step is to grease the wares with special (available on the stone market) wax protection. After the cleaning and drying up, wipe the surface of the product with a soft cloth to obtain a uniform tint. Frequency of the treatments depends on environmental contamination The moment to start the treatment is when the surface of a bronze accessory begins to oxidise (starts to have a grey coating) The resulting sludge is caused by atmospheric air. After using the above recommendations accessory’s natural black color will be restored. It is unadvised to use harsh cleaning chemicals. Failure to comply this procedures may lead to damage the surface of the bronze cast - black patine. All of the proposed cleaning and maintenance treatments are very simple. Their use provides many years of satisfaction to our clients. 47 Bellevue Road, Wrexham LL13 7LY, Great Britain +44.07746824660 / +44 01978 469641 office@pure-steel.co.uk www.pure-steel.co.uk
