14 PHILANTHROPY Philanthropy City of Hope Lion Street has been honored to support and be an active member of City of Hope for years. Royce Imhoff currently serves as Chairman of the Life Insurance Committee, comprised of James Joyce and Lion Street Owners Cleves Delp and Tyler Horning from TDC Life. The Life Insurance Industry raised more than $1 million in 2017. City of Hope is a pioneer in the fields of bone marrow transplantation, diabetes and numerous breakthrough cancer drugs based on technology developed at the institution. RBI Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) is a youth baseball program operated by Major League Baseball. This youth initiative is designed to provide young people from underserved and diverse communities the opportunity to play baseball and softball. The program was created by John Young in 1989 in Los Angeles, and now serves more than 200 communities. Lion Street is a proud supporter of this outreach program. In 2017, RBI Austin served 1,171 kids. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. The mission of the hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay. Lion Street was honored to join a major sponsor of the event, Joel Solomon and his team at Paradigm Strategic Insurance Services, a Lion Street Firm; in support of the 14th Annual St. Jude SoCal Gala during October 2017. University of Texas – Longhorn Foundation The Longhorn Foundation is the official fundraising arm of Texas Athletics and supports the educational and competitive pursuits of more than 500 student-athletes. Lion Street contributes to this Foundation’s pursuits. Texas Athletics exists to develop student-athletes through their connection to master coaches, elite performance centers and focused academic nurturing. An investment in the Longhorn Foundation inspires this life-changing vision and ensures that student-athletes gain the tools necessary to grow and become foremost competitors and leaders.
IN THE NEWS 15 In the News Adam Sandahl Hired to Lead Corporate and Business Solutions Adam Sandahl is the most recent addition to the Lion Street leadership team. As head of the Corporate and Business Solutions area, Adam’s nearly 30 years of experience in the corporate-owned life arena will be advantageous. His role will be to drive growth and lead the expansion of the company’s national presence in the corporate and business solutions markets. December 2017 Lion Street Hosts Seventh Annual Indaba Meeting Lion Street places great importance on providing informative content to stockholders at conferences. In September, the company hosted its seventh annual INDABA meeting for Owners to share ideas and best practices. With close to 250 attendees, presentations addressing innovative and real-life application of solutions that Owners used to meet client needs were offered. September 2017 Indaba: \in-da-ba\ The word Indaba comes from the southern regions of Africa, where it describes a special community gathering... A meeting of the minds for the sharing of ideas, where everyone has a voice and where there is an attempt to find a common story. Lion Street Financial Awarded 2017 Broker-Dealer of the Year Once again, Lion Street was awarded Broker Dealer of the Year in Division I by Investment Advisor magazine. John Burmeister, President and COO, was interviewed on a wide range of topics regarding ongoing challenges faced by financial firms. The award was started 28 years ago to evaluate broker dealers across 15 categories. Winning this award for the second consecutive year demonstrates the confidence Lion Street Owners have in the service and quality provided by Lion Street Financial. August 2017 Trusted Advisor Conference Surpasses Expectations The annual Trusted Advisor Conference held in Las Vegas in June 2017 once again brought together Lion Street Owners and their invited Guest Advisors – CPAs, attorneys, trust officers and wealth managers. The program provides a platform for Owners and Advisors to interact with and learn from industry experts on advanced planning strategies. Attendance from the previous year grew by almost 20%. This conference is part of Lion Street’s larger Trusted Advisor Program to provide Owners with resources to connect with Advisors. June 2017 Lion Street Names Karyn Hamilton as VP Marketing Lion Street announced the hiring of Karyn Hamilton to head Lion Street marketing efforts. Her experience in marketing financial services will support Lion Street’s visibility in the industry, growth of its Firms, as well as its continued recruitment of new Firms to expand its national presence.
