LAW ENFORCEMENT / CORRECTIONS In 2017, Floyd County completed the third phase of the Law Enforcement Pay Plan which leads into the Corrections Officer Pay Plan that was approved to begin in 2018. The Floyd County Jail Improvements from the 2013 SPLOST were completed in 2017 with the addition of the new elevator. Jail Medical Phase 1 design and build from the 2013 SPLOST was approved in 2017 and with the 2017 SPLOST Phase II is funded. Also, a new jail maintenance position realignment was approved by the Commission. The Floyd County Prison completed a successful PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) Audit. In 2017, inmate details from the Floyd County Prison worked on several major construction and demolition projects around the County. These projects included hangar repairs and office and patio upgrades at Richard B. Russell Airport; renovation of the old Animal Control facility into the new Floyd County Morgue; painting, removal and installation of carpet at the Forum River Center; and, painting and refurbishment of second floor windows at the Cave Spring Library. E-911 Director John Blalock completed his first full year as the Public Safety Liaison to the County Manager’s office. Major Jeff Jones concluded the Floyd County Board of Education investigation. Patrolman First Class Corey Wright was named the Officer of the Year. Chief Bill Shiflett retired after 43 years of service. Longtime employee Mark Wallace was promoted from the role of Assistant Chief of Police to Chief of the Floyd County Police Department in 2017. Mark began his law enforcement career with Floyd County at eighteen and has continued to serve his community over the past thirty-seven years. 34 2017 FLOYD COUNTY ANNUAL REPORT

LAW ENFORCEMENT / CORRECTIONS (CONTINUED) The 2017 Shop with a Cop program raised $14,100 and helped more than 60 children have a merrier Christmas. The Rome Floyd Metro Task Force seized over $310,000.00 in illegal drugs in 2017. There was a significant increase in Marijuana and Synthetic Marijuana compared to 2016. In the wake of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department activated #romegacares and collected much needed supplies for communities in Texas and Florida. Members of the community came together in support and tractor trailers were filled with supplies and volunteers followed to give their support to those devastated by the storms. 35 2017 FLOYD COUNTY ANNUAL REPORT
