dignitaries. Modi reached Palestine via
Jordan. At the Jordan stop-over, he met
King Abdullah II. The King described the
meeting as the beginning of a new chapter
in bilateral ties.

8 tax officers to

In light of mass complaints regarding
lack of information about the GST, the
Finance Ministry has roped in eight tax
officers, all assistant commissioners,
to answer related queries on Twitter/
email with immediate effect.

people facing problems with the new
regime, an official said.
To address concerns, Central Board of
Excise and Customs launched several

Welcome to Goa, but don't urinate
on roads: CM Manohar Parrikar
Panaji, Feb 14 (IANS) In a bid to
diffuse the controversy stirred by Goa
Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai
calling domestic tourists as "scum of
earth", state Chief Minister Manohar
Parrikar on Wednesday said that
everyone was welcome to the state,
provided they do not urinate on roads
and add to the state's garbage woes.
Parrikar also said that Sardesai's
comment will not impact tourism in the
coastal state. He added that while the
choice of Sardesai's words was harsh,
he did not intend to incite violence.
"Everyone is welcome, subject to (the)
condition that he should not urinate on
the roads or strew garbage," Parrikar
told reporters. "He (Sardesai) asked
me a question whether it will impact
(the tourist flow). I do not think it will
impact... I will prefer to have a good
and responsible tourist from any place
in the world," Parrikar added.
The Chief Minister said that basic
social etiquettes applied to the locals as
well.Sardesai had stoked a controversy
last week by denigrating the credentials
of tourists visiting Goa and accusing
north Indians of trying to convert Goa
into another Haryana.
He had referred to the 6.5 million
domestic tourists visiting Goa every
year as "scum of the earth".

Washington, Feb 14 (UNI) The US
President Donald Trump has criticised
India for imposing a high import tax
on Harley-Davidson motorcycles,
according to a scroll.in report.
He said the US charges no tax on
Indian bike imports and that India’s
new tax was an example of “unfair”
trade practices.
Trump said the United States must
impose “reciprocal taxes” to fight back.
Prime Minister HH Sayyid Fahd bin
Mahmood Al-Said on deepening the
relationship between the two countries
in the fields of energy, trade and
investment, food security, defence and
mining.
Earlier in the day, the prime minister
met Oman’s leading business executives
and urged them to invest in India. Modi
highlighted the reform measures his

He then visited a Shiva temple that the
merchant community from Gujarat had
built 125 years back in the capital city
Muscat. He spoke to the members of the
temple’s management committee.
On Sunday, Modi held talks with
Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said of
Oman as the two countries signed
eight agreements, including pacts on
cooperation on defence, health and
tourism. “Sultan Qaboos appreciated the
contribution of honest and hard working
Indian nationals in the development of
Oman,” Ministry of External Affairs
Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted.
The prime minister had addressed the
Indian diaspora at the Sultan Qaboos
Sports Complex in Muscat on Sunday.
The ties between the two countries,
he pointed out, have always remained
strong despite the changing political
environment.
Oman was Modi’s last stop in his fournation
tour. He visited Jordan, Palestine
and the United Arab Emirates since
February 9.

items and discussion on how to promote

Nepal-India
passenger
railway to
resume in Oct
Kathmandu, Feb 14 (UNI) The longawaited
cross-border passenger railway
service from Bardibas of Nepal to
Jaynagar of India will finally come into
operation in October, a report in The
Kathmandu Post has reported.
In the first phase, trains will be
operated on 34-km stretch from Kurtha
of Dhanusha district in Nepal to
Jaynagar of India.
This service will begin in October,
according to Binod Ojha, chief engineer
of Nepal Railways.
The total length of the Bardibas-
Jaynagar strech is 69-km.
At present, railway tracks are being
laid on 400 to 500 metres of land per day.

legislation that will register every

organ donor unless they explicitly
choose to opt out. The law will come
into effect in 2020 and ask the citizens

Centre selects
Karnataka's
Hampi as 'Iconic
Tourism' site
The Centre on Tuesday announced
that Karnataka's Hampi monuments
will be among the ten destinations
selected as 'Iconic Tourism' sites. In his
Union Budget speech, Finance Minister
Arun Jaitley had said that the sites
will be provided support for holistic
infrastructure and skill development.
Other selected sites include the Taj
Mahal, Konark Sun Temple, and Ajanta
and Ellora caves.

JERUSALEM: Air India will get a onetime
grant of 750,000 euros from Israel
for launching direct flights between
New Delhi and Tel Aviv, which is
likely to be launched next month, a
senior Israeli official said today.
"The ministry of tourism will
approve a grant to Air India in
response to their request and
according to the conditions of the
directive, which includes a grant of
250,000 Euro per weekly flight, up to
a total of three weekly flights," Lydia
Weitzman, a spokesperson for the
ministry of tourism, said.
"It is a one-time grant for an airline
opening a new direct route into Tel
Aviv (TLV) from a destination that has
potential for incoming tourism," she
said.
Informed sources said that the Indian
flag carrier could start its direct flights
into Israel from New Delhi on March
20, flying thrice a week on Tuesdays,
Thursdays and Sundays.

efforts to promote inbound tourism
from India, Air India's direct flight
between New Delhi and Tel Aviv would
be operating on the shortest route and
is expected to bring down significantly

The UAE’s Road and Transport
Authority (RTA) showcased the world’s
first driverless pods at the World
Government Summit on Sunday.
The autonomous vehicles are meant to
travel short to medium distances, and
will have a capacity to accommodate
10 passengers (six seated and four
standing), according to Gulf news.
The pods can travel attached, or
separately depending on the riders’
destination. Each pod is fitted with a
battery that can last up to three hours,
and can be recharged over six hours.
Mattar al-Tayer, Director-General and
Chairman of the Board of Executive
Directors of the RTA, said that these
unique pods are part of the Dubai’s
efforts to become the smartest city in
the world.
“It echoes the Dubai Autonomous
Transport Strategy aimed at converting
25 per cent of mobility journeys in
Dubai to autonomous transportation by
2030,” al-Tayer told Gulf News.
“The move also contributes to
achieving the integration of public
transit means and people’s happiness
through providing smooth, quick and
innovative transit means,” he added.
The pod’s average speed is 20 Km/Hr
and run on a virtual pre-configured and
programmed lane, and are overseen by
an operational system, as per the report.

In a study carried out by researchers
from Brazil, India, Germany, and
Finland, a Magnetic Resonance (MR)
machine was used to read participants'
minds and figure out what song they
are listening to.
The machine was doing this by
analyzing and decoding the signals it
was receiving by their brains.
The study was able to read
participants' minds with 85% success.
The machine identified brain
patterns related to musical elements
The study constituted of six volunteers
who were made to hear 40 different
pieces of music in genres like classical,
rock, pop, and jazz.
The machine then captured the
neural fingerprint of each song on
participants' brains.
The computer took into account
musical elements like tonality,
dynamics, rhythm, and timbre to
identify the brain patterns related to
them and showed up to 85% accuracy.
Samsung's next flagship, the Galaxy
S9, is likely to be 25 per cent faster
than its predecessor, all thanks to the

processor.
According to the early benchmark
tests as conducted by CNET, the
chip did perform 'insanely fast' as it

World first Ski Robot

Robots, or ski-bots, had their very
own “Olympics” in South Korea.
The world first event, The Edge of
Robot: Ski Robot Challenge, was held
just outside of PyeongChang at Welli
Hilli ski resort on Monday.
Eight humanoid robots, created by
universities and organisations, tested
their abilities down a beginner’s alpine
slope. The results were both impressive
and, at times, hilarious.
To qualify in the competition, Reuters
reported the robots had to be at least
50cm tall, have joint movements like
humans and be able to hold ski poles
– some of the little robots were even
kitted out in ski clothes.
According to Reuters, the robots were
built with camera sensors to detect the
flag poles as they skied down the slope,
but not all of the robots could make a
clean run.
Videos of the robots crashing into
flags and tumbling down the slope,
proved popular on social media.
But why create a robot ski challenge?
Well, an event coordinator told
Reuters they hoped the challenge
would showcase South Korea’s robotic
technology to the world.

Bolivian conservationists have set up an
online dating profile for Romeo in an effort

Deepika Padukone, whose latest release

India collections of Rs 230 crore, says
she is yet to celebrate the success and
feels the success story is not over as
yet. Deepika plays the title role in the
Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial, and
has expressed her gratitude for the love
and appreciation that has come to her,
Bhansali as well as co-actors Ranveer
Singh and Shahid Kapoor.
Asked about how she is celebrating
the success of Padmaavat, she said, "To
be really honest, I think there hasn't
been any time to celebrate the success
because there is so much happening
right now. Of course, it is the time for
celebration. I think receiving awards
like these reminds me why I am in
this business of making films, because
cinema is such a powerful medium.
It spreads love and brings people
together. I think awards like these
really sort of reinstate that. As far as
my film is concerned, I had said this

a festive Diwali release, but its release
in China is doing wonders for the film.
Secret Superstar has not only released
in China but also has taken the Chinese
box office by storm.
Making it to the top ten movies of 2017
on IMDb India as well, this movie does

The film has performed tremendously
at the Chinese Box Office and has

with a worldwide collection of 853

Mumbai: Veteran actor Nana Patekar
is happy that Marathi cinema is coming
up with some really good stories.
Some of the biggest Marathi hits
include "Deva", "Sairat", "Natsamrat",

The 67-year-old actor, who starred in
Marathi film Aapla Manus recently,
believes good films manage to create
their own space.
"If you make good films coupled with
great stories, people will go and see it.

Priya Prakash Varrier became an overnight Internet star after a clip of
her video from the newly-released song 'Manikya Malaraya Poovi' went
viral on the Internet.
While some of us were lazying
around on a rather slow weekend,
others decided to invest their time
into making the most viral meme of
2018 yet.
With Valentine's Day around the
corner and theme of love being in the
air, a short clip from a Malayalam
movie started doing the rounds on
the Internet.
Composed by Shaan Rahman, the
video resonated with many and filled
the hearts of people with nostalgia of
high school romance.
The clip was trimmed from the
newly-released song "Manikya
Malaraya Poovi" from the upcoming
Malayalam film Oru Adaar Love
and was flooding the social media
timelines. And soon, the scene
where actor Priya Prakash Varrier
exchange adorable glances with a
boy, became an overnight Internet
sensation.
The video was later picked up by
comedy collective All India Bakchod.

will make your road trip that much better:

Carnival on Saturday, with traditional
float parades led by the caricaturish
icon, King Momo, to packed audiences.

Panaji as the Carnival parade moved
merrily along the Marine drive near
Miramar beach here."Carnival is one of
