Welcome to Goa, but don't urinate
on roads: CM Manohar Parrikar
Panaji, Feb 14 (IANS) In a bid to
diffuse the controversy stirred by Goa
Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai
calling domestic tourists as "scum of
earth", state Chief Minister Manohar
Parrikar on Wednesday said that
everyone was welcome to the state,
provided they do not urinate on roads
and add to the state's garbage woes.
Parrikar also said that Sardesai's
comment will not impact tourism in the
coastal state. He added that while the
choice of Sardesai's words was harsh,
he did not intend to incite violence.
"Everyone is welcome, subject to (the)
condition that he should not urinate on
the roads or strew garbage," Parrikar
told reporters. "He (Sardesai) asked
me a question whether it will impact
(the tourist flow). I do not think it will
impact... I will prefer to have a good
and responsible tourist from any place
in the world," Parrikar added.
The Chief Minister said that basic
social etiquettes applied to the locals as
well.Sardesai had stoked a controversy
last week by denigrating the credentials
of tourists visiting Goa and accusing
north Indians of trying to convert Goa
into another Haryana.
He had referred to the 6.5 million
domestic tourists visiting Goa every
year as "scum of the earth".
Delhi-Israel
Flights Soon,
Air India To Get
7.5 Lakh Euros
For Launch
JERUSALEM: Air India will get a onetime
grant of 750,000 euros from Israel
for launching direct flights between
New Delhi and Tel Aviv, which is
likely to be launched next month, a
senior Israeli official said today.
"The ministry of tourism will
approve a grant to Air India in
response to their request and
according to the conditions of the
directive, which includes a grant of
250,000 Euro per weekly flight, up to
a total of three weekly flights," Lydia
Weitzman, a spokesperson for the
ministry of tourism, said.
"It is a one-time grant for an airline
opening a new direct route into Tel
Aviv (TLV) from a destination that has
potential for incoming tourism," she
said.
Informed sources said that the Indian
flag carrier could start its direct flights
into Israel from New Delhi on March
20, flying thrice a week on Tuesdays,
Thursdays and Sundays.
Dubbed a "game changer" in Israel's
efforts to promote inbound tourism
from India, Air India's direct flight
between New Delhi and Tel Aviv would
be operating on the shortest route and
is expected to bring down significantly
the cost of travel between the two
countries.
"Hopefully Air India would soon
start direct flights between India and
Tel Aviv which is going to be a game
changer increasing manifold the
number of tourists coming from India
to Israel.
days has been growing at 15%. However,
the Valentine’s Day has witnessed an
increase of about 21%,” said Sethi.
Sources from Travelyaari, a bus
ticketing platform, told TOI that couples
prefer a quick vacation over a quick drive
around Valentine’s Day. “While eating
out and resort stay options still remain
open for the last minute, advance booking
trends reflect a surge in bus bookings. The
bookings began right from the Republic
Day weekend, with the maximum number
of V-Day bookings received from Pune,” a
source company said.
Amit Taneja, chief revenue officer
at Cleartrip, said that with around
one-third of hotel bookings made 60
days in advance, users have planned for
Valentine’s Day much ahead of time.
“About 41% bookings are for 4 and 5-star
hotels. We have also seen a 27% higher
year-on-year bookings for this time of
the year. Short haul destinations like
Dubai, Bangkok, Denpasar, Colombo,
Singapore and Phuket are in demand
among foreign destinations. Goa,
Jaipur, Port Blair, and Guwahati are
popular domestic hotspots,” he said.
Welcome to Goa, but don't urinate on roads:
... Continued from Pg. 1
He should not have used harsh words. I
spoke to him... he did not intend to, but
it is not that his logic was wrong. "But
it was interpreted in a wrong way... He
corrected it the next day," Parrikar said
while commenting on Sardesai's remarks.
In a study carried out by researchers
from Brazil, India, Germany, and
Finland, a Magnetic Resonance (MR)
machine was used to read participants'
minds and figure out what song they
are listening to.
The machine was doing this by
analyzing and decoding the signals it
was receiving by their brains.
The study was able to read
participants' minds with 85% success.
The machine identified brain
patterns related to musical elements
The study constituted of six volunteers
who were made to hear 40 different
pieces of music in genres like classical,
rock, pop, and jazz.
The machine then captured the
neural fingerprint of each song on
participants' brains.
The computer took into account
musical elements like tonality,
dynamics, rhythm, and timbre to
identify the brain patterns related to
them and showed up to 85% accuracy.
Samsung's next flagship, the Galaxy
S9, is likely to be 25 per cent faster
than its predecessor, all thanks to the
Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 mobile
processor.
According to the early benchmark
tests as conducted by CNET, the
chip did perform 'insanely fast' as it
trumped the likes of Galaxy S8 and
Google Pixel 2 in a set of 12 industry
standard performance tests.
Samsung's next flagship is some days
away from becoming official; it will see
a launch at the Mobile World Congress
in Barcelona on February 26.
According to leaks, S9 will sport
a single f/1.5 rear shooter while the
S9+ may get a dual lens set up (f/1.5
and f/2.5). The front glass is expected
to be Corning Gorilla Glass 5 with a
reinforced aluminium frame holding
a 5.8" Super AMOLED display, having
a resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels (~568
ppi density). The battery capacity may
increase from 3,000 mAh to 3,500 mAh.
World first Ski Robot
Challenge held in South Korea
Why watch humans ski in the Winter
Olympics, when you can watch robots
ski.
Robots, or ski-bots, had their very
own “Olympics” in South Korea.
The world first event, The Edge of
Robot: Ski Robot Challenge, was held
just outside of PyeongChang at Welli
Hilli ski resort on Monday.
Eight humanoid robots, created by
universities and organisations, tested
their abilities down a beginner’s alpine
slope. The results were both impressive
and, at times, hilarious.
To qualify in the competition, Reuters
reported the robots had to be at least
50cm tall, have joint movements like
humans and be able to hold ski poles
– some of the little robots were even
kitted out in ski clothes.
According to Reuters, the robots were
built with camera sensors to detect the
flag poles as they skied down the slope,
but not all of the robots could make a
clean run.
Videos of the robots crashing into
flags and tumbling down the slope,
proved popular on social media.
But why create a robot ski challenge?
Well, an event coordinator told
Reuters they hoped the challenge
would showcase South Korea’s robotic
technology to the world.

What will inspire your next vacation?
Music tourism to be 2018's top travel trend
NEW DELHI: Music tourism, a strange
and unfamiliar term in India until
only a few years ago, is now a massive
phenomenon that's only getting more
popular, thanks to a thriving music
scene and young consumers eager to
have new experiences.
As the travel industry gears up
for yet another year of exciting
developments, music tourism seems
to be the buzzword in 2018, topping all
travel trends across the globe.
In India or elsewhere, music festivals
are not just limited to music; the idea
behind these is to sell an experience,
and the more unconventional the
experiences, the better. Music tourism
and festivals are not only a great way
for independent artists to showcase
their talents, but also help bring
tourists to new destinations and boost
local employment.
In 2018, more people will seek to
explore popular unconventional
destinations and festivals that reflect
the culture, heritage, and ethos of
the local region. One such festival is
Ragasthan, a winter desert camping
festival that's being held since the past
two years.
Ragasthan, set to be held in
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan from February
The Best German &
European Cafe in Town
23 to 25, 2018, is Asia's first desert
camping festival held in the expansive
dunes of the Thar Desert. In its third
edition this year, Ragasthan will
feature an eclectic mix of music,
culture, tradition, and a plethora of
shared experiences, attracting music
and travel enthusiasts from the
remotest corners of India.
Over 50 artists, one artists' village, a
sociable camping space, a dozen film
screenings under the open sky, bars
and restaurants, art installations,
morning yoga sessions, and football on
the softest playground will be part of
the itinerary at the festival, promising
visitors three days of uninhibited
excitement.
Commenting on the trend of music
tourism, Varun Gupta, CEO Goomo,
said, "A number of events boasting
famous international artists have
debuted in India over the past few
years, producing a year-long packed
schedule of music festivals across the
country. With more and more state
governments looking to boost tourism
through musical and cultural events,
we have witnessed people from all
over the country travelling to various
places just to attend these festivals and
enjoy the local music, art and culture."
Some of the most popular and leading
music festivals in India include names
such as NH7 weekender; Sunburn;
Hornbill International Music Festival,
Kohima; Ziro Festival of Music; VH1
Supersonic; and Ragasthan. As has
been seen in the past with the maiden
Indian concerts of popular artists like
Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber, young
Indians and millennial travellers
are now willing to travel in huge
numbers for concerts of their favourite
international music artists.
I'm not a
12-year-old
to hide my
relationships:
Jacqueline
Actress Jacqueline Fernandez, while
addressing rumours that she is
dating Sidharth Malhotra, said, "I'm
not a 12-year-old who has to hide her
relationships." "I'm a grown-up girl. If I
was dating someone it wouldn't be a big
deal for me anymore. I would honestly
admit to it," she added. Jacqueline
further said, "Sid will always remain a
close friend."
Deepika
Padukone
says that
'Padmaavat'
story is not
over yet
Deepika Padukone, whose latest release
Padmaavat has turned out to be the
actress' highest grosser by crossing
India collections of Rs 230 crore, says
she is yet to celebrate the success and
feels the success story is not over as
yet. Deepika plays the title role in the
Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial, and
has expressed her gratitude for the love
and appreciation that has come to her,
Bhansali as well as co-actors Ranveer
Singh and Shahid Kapoor.
Asked about how she is celebrating
the success of Padmaavat, she said, "To
be really honest, I think there hasn't
been any time to celebrate the success
because there is so much happening
right now. Of course, it is the time for
celebration. I think receiving awards
like these reminds me why I am in
this business of making films, because
cinema is such a powerful medium.
It spreads love and brings people
together. I think awards like these
really sort of reinstate that. As far as
my film is concerned, I had said this
earlier as well, there is no stopping it.
I think it deserves all the kind of love
and blessings that we are receiving.
I think box-office numbers are again
testament of that and it's not over yet."
"I genuinely believe you are as good as your
co-actor" - RANVEER SINGH
Ranveer Singh is enjoying the success
of his film Padmaavat as well as all the
love that his character Alauddin Khalji
has received from all over. His portrayal
of Khilji has won viewers and critics
alike. Padmaavat has gone on to become
the highest grossing film of his career.
According to an article in Deccan
Chronicle, Ranveer Singh bared his
heart about his co-stars. He said, “I
genuinely believe you are as good as
your co-actor, I have experienced it so
many times with Anushka Sharma, Anil
Goa ushers in Carnival among pomp
and splendour
Tips for Planning the
Perfect Road Trip
Planes and trains might get you where you want to go, but there’s
just something romantic and alluring behind the idea of a road trip.
Summer is the season for spontaneous getaways, so there’s no better
time to hit the road than right now. Whether you’re planning a quick
weekend escape or a romantic road trip these ten tried-and-true tips
will make your road trip that much better:
Panaji, Feb 10 (IANS) Goa, a former
Portuguese colony ushered in the
Carnival on Saturday, with traditional
float parades led by the caricaturish
icon, King Momo, to packed audiences.
Thousands of revelers dressed in
visibly loud costumes, funny hats
or dyed wigs, thronged the streets of
Panaji as the Carnival parade moved
merrily along the Marine drive near
Miramar beach here."Carnival is one of
the flagship tourism events of Goa. It is
a symbol of our culture and tradition,"
Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar
told reporters on the sidelines of the
festivities.Carnival processions are
symbolic of Goa's colonial Portuguese
legacy and are held here every year
before the holy season of Lent, which
is marked by fasting and an air of
solemnity.The festival, which involves
a public celebration in form of long
continuous parades of gaily coloured
floats, with masqueraded dancers,
is led by King Momo or king of the
carnival, who is a locally chosen
celebrity, who is given a key to the
city.After the inaugural parade in
Panaji, similar float parades will also
be held in other cities namely Margao,
Vasco, Ponda, Morjim and Curchorem.
[thequint.com]
1. Start early
It goes without saying that you will
make the most headway when the least
amount of cars are on the road. But
besides being efficient, beginning your
trip at the crack of dawn or after the sun
sets can be exciting. There’s something
thrilling about exploring the world
when everyone else is still asleep. Just
make sure you’re plenty alert and got
enough sleep the night before.
2. Fill her up
don’t wait until the day you’re hitting
the road to fill up your tank. Plan ahead
and hit the pump midweek instead. And
while you’re at it, have a professional do
a little maintenance check to make sure
your ride is vacation-ready.
3. Pack lots of snacks and drinks
packing snacks is the best way to
maintain your body when there’s
nothing but fast food for miles. Fill
a cooler with some healthy snacks
and drinks that will keep you full and
happy and if your car snacks just aren’t
cutting it, find a grocery store to restock
rather than giving into the nearest
drive-thru. Supermarkets offer plenty of
quick and healthy alternatives.
4. Make a Mix
since you’ll be stuck in the car for a long
time, it’s important to keep yourself and
your passengers entertained. Make a
playlist of upbeat driving songs to help
pass the time. And since it’s practically
guaranteed that you’ll never see the
people driving in the cars next to you
again, now’s the time to sing at the top
of your lungs with your windows rolled
down. Try playing a few car games,
getting time to fill up on all the gossip if
you haven’t see your friends in a while.
5. Plan for spontaneous stops
Road trips are as much about the
excursion as they are about the
destination. Be sure to allow enough
time for stopping at that cute little
roadside diner or kitschy tourist
attraction. Take the scenic route and
embrace unexpected detours. Stop every
couple of hours to soak it all in or take
pictures of the view.
6. Stretch
We’ve already shared the importance of
walking the block when you’re sitting at
a desk all day, and the same philosophy
goes for road trips too. Park as far as
possible from rest stops to make sure
you’re getting in those extra steps.
7. Don’t forget your Sunnies and
SPF
If you are road tripping in the Summer,
keep in mind that it is possible to get
sunburnt through the car windows.
Prevent an embarrassing sunburn on
one side of your body by slathering on
the SPF.
8. Try a Traffic App
Nothing’s more tedious spending 2
hours driving first 10 miles, to avoid
getting stuck in a jam when you’re
leaving or entering the city, download
a traffic and navigation app. It will save
you time and gas money.
9. Invite your friends
Unlike a plane flight where every
passenger needs their own ticket, the
cost of your road trip will be cut down
dramatically by every passenger who
joins you. So pack your car with four of
your besties and enjoy the time spent
together. You can all take turns driving,
playing games and catch up everything
new in your lives.
10. Mind the rules
This one goes without saying, but just
because you’re on the open road doesn’t
mean that traffic rules don’t apply. One
speeding ticket can destroy your road
trip budget and your mood. Drive safely!
Do you have any other tips for
taking a road trip?
