ET Australia Secondary College Cross Curriculum Learning We’ve selected five of the best incursions and excursions provided to students throughout 2017 to give you an understanding of how our incursions and excursions relate to the NSW curriculum at ET Australia Secondary College. Gosford Car Museum Year 7 and 8 students attended Gosford Classic Car Museum where they used the skills and content taught in Technology class to complete an advertisement of one automobile within the museum. Each student collected images using their iPads during this excursion which were used in class to illustrate key design concepts and skills required as part of the course requirements. Museum of Contemporary Art In Visual Arts Year 7 students are expected to experience being an audience member at an art gallery to identify the intention and context of exhibitions and displays. Students attended The Museum of Contemporary Art in Term 4. The focus of artworks looked at were by contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Artists. Students critically responded to artworks and had time in the museums art studio for hands-on creative activity. Water Testing and Coastal Surveying In Science and Geography Year 9 and 10 students were required to use a range of fieldwork skills to collect data samples in order to successfully complete their major assessment task for 2017. Students were taken to Gosford waterfront, Ettalong foreshore and Avoca, Terrigal and Wamberal beaches to collect water samples, complete a quadrant analysis and survey areas of importance giving students the opportunity to use the skills they learnt in class in a practical setting. It also provided students a spatial understanding of the geographic issue of coastal management and helped them develop an understanding of key scientific concepts. Pompeii – National Maritime Museum In Term 3 each year our Year 7 students study History, switching over from studying Geography in Terms 1 and 2, in particular they study Ancient Rome. Students enjoyed a hands on excursion to the Australian National Maritime Museum introducing them to how history is investigated. They learnt how museums use sources to interpret and conserve the past and critically reviewed the “life in Pompeii” exhibition. Zoosnooz Year 9 and 10 students participated in an overnight stay at Taronga Zoo in Sydney. This excursion helped consolidate the content they were studying in Science and English during Term 4. Students were able to view the animals after the gates had closed, participated in biodiversity within ecosystems workshops run by Taronga Zoo and woke up to the awesome sounds of animals waking up for the day. L’isle de France – French Restaurant Part of the Year 8 curriculum is for students to learn the language of French. In Term 4 students experienced a little French culture by enjoying lunch at L’isle de France where they put into practice their French language in a real life setting by ordering in French and many bravely tried escargot (snails!). A lovely day, filled with lots of laughs.
