advanced in the

race with a time
of 4:49.51.

Scouts’ seasonending
loss to
Lake Zurich.

Making it to a state competition
as a freshman is
no easy accomplishment.
Kristin Fisch, one of the
breakout freshman gymnasts
at Lake Forest High
School, advanced from the
Niles North Sectional to
the Illinois High School
Association’s state competition
in both floor and
vault.
She was ready and excited
to be at a different
kind of competition. Fisch
stepped out onto the floor
Friday, Feb. 16, at the
IHSA state meet, held at
Palatine High School, and
after her first pass she could
feel something was wrong.
“On my first pass in my
floor routine I landed kind
of wrong and didn’t continue
my floor routine,” Fisch
said.
Fisch was personally
shocked that she had taken
that misstep, especially after
she had been consistent
for most of the year.
“I’d never done that before,”
she said.
Fisch, up until starting
her freshman year as
a Scout, had trained and
competed with club gymnastic
teams.
“It was very different
from what I’m used to in
club,” Fisch said. “My
warmups were pretty
