Just Like Paul, We Follow God’s Call
With the backdrop of a Bible study on the missionary journeys of Paul, 26 Word of
Peace church leaders came together for a Leadership Retreat on February 9 and 10
to develop strategic initiatives for 2018-2019. Paul planned and discerned his journeys
based on what he valued, as well as who he would minister to with the strengths, opportunities,
and hopes that God gave him. Likewise, the leaders of our church spent
time planning and discerning who God is calling us to minister to in the next couple of
years based on the values, strengths, opportunities, and hopes of our church.
While it is important for our church to maintain its strong programming, the following
values will guide our focus for the next couple of years:
Deepen people’s relationships with God (worship that nurtures people’s
faith)
Seek out and use the gifts of people of all ages
Be a positive force in the community
Build strong, healthy relationships

In particular we lift up these values in our ministry to the following groups of our congregation and community:
Children, Youth, and Family (CYF) Families
Core Doers (active volunteers and staff)
Uninvolved Attenders (those who attend worship or church school, but are otherwise not
involved in the life and ministry of the congregation)
Neighbors (the community that surrounds us)
Youth/Young Adults (ages 15-25)
The Strategic Planning Team is continuing the work of this Leadership Retreat by defining the specific results we
desire in the next year or two for each of these groups listed above. Our goal is to have these results finalized in
March.
We thank the wonderful leadership teams of our congregation for all their work, passion, and energy, and ask
that you please continue to pray for our church leaders as they further discern God’s call for our congregation in
the next few years.

Spring Mental Health Forums
The Mental Health Task Force invites you to this year’s forums. The purpose of these forums are
to create a greater understanding of Mental Health issues and to foster a faithful response. These
forums are open to everyone and will be held at 9:45 AM in Room 120. This year’s topics include:
April 8: “Creating Caring Faith Communities” Presentation by NAMI Minnesota
April 15: “Making it Okay” Presentation by Mona Trebesch and Pastor Tyler Strom
April 22: “Alzheimer Basics” Presentation by the Alzheimer’s Association
