Weedons defeated Leeston-Southbridge by three wickets in a tight match played in bowler-friendly conditions at Weedons Domain. Batting first, Leeston- Southbridge made a slow but steady start before Weedons’ Jonathan Green dismissed both William Macfarlane for 17 and Chris Beatson for a duck in quick succession to have the visitors at 28/2. Opening batsman Liam O’Sullivan was the only batsman to make a healthy contribution, grinding out 39 from 101 deliveries before being bowled by Green. Leeston-Southbridge were bowled out for 119 in the 38th over. Weedons were able to clean up the middle order and tail with relative ease. Brad Nightingale and Green were the best of the SPORTS Weedons take tight match bowlers, both claiming three wickets. Weedons’ run chase got off to a shaky start. They found themselves two wickets down for just 10 runs early. Gareth Painter and Sam Wilson were able to steady the ship by combining for a third wicket partnership of 32. However, it was the lower order that fired to get Weedons over the line. Number 6 Shannon Dunnett and No 9 Kane Meyerhoff both scoring 23 runs each to see their side reach the total in the 24th over. O’Sullivan continued an impressive day of work with three wickets to finish as the best Leeston- Southbridge bowler.
