Retired Lincoln-Way East Athletic Director
to be inducted into IADA Hall of Fame
Submitted by Lincoln-Way
Community High School
District 210
On the evening of May 5,
2018, former Lincoln-Way
East Athletic Director David
Brost will be inducted
into the Illinois Athletic Directors
Association (IADA)
Hall of Fame. The banquet
will be held in Peoria, Illinois
at the Embassy Suites
by Hilton East Peoria Riverfront
Hotel at 6 p.m. Brost is
one of just five Athletic Directors
in the state to receive
this prestigious honor.
After spending six years
as the Athletic Director at his
alma mater of Reavis High
School, Brost began his 13-
year career with District 210
in 1999. At the time, students
at Lincoln-Way High
School spanned across two
campuses. With a growing
student population, in
2001, the two campuses became
separate high schools:
Lincoln-Way Central and
Lincoln-Way East. Although
the Griffins did not house a
senior class their first year,
under Brost’s leadership,
the Lincoln-Way East girls
softball team won the State
Championship. Three short
years later, the Griffin Football
Team earned their first
State Championship.
While his record of winning
teams is impressive,
many would argue that
Brost’s leadership within
the community outshines
his teams’ victories. While
at Lincoln-Way East, Brost
established many recognition
programs for athletes,
Maintenance crew, coaches
and administrative members
were frequently recognized
for their contributions and
support of Griffin athletics.
“Fall, winter, and spring
awards nights were my favorite
of the year,” says Brost.
Although he retired in
2012, he clearly left his mark
on both students and staff.
Unbeknownst to Brost, in
the fall of 2017, Lincoln-
Way Central Athletic Director
Matthew Lyke nominated
Brost to the IADA Hall of
Fame. On Jan. 29, 2018,
Brost was notified of his
upcoming induction by the
IADA Executive Committee.
Though his career is impressive,
Brost still credits
others with his success.
IADA Hall of Fame is mainly
because of the people I
worked with at Reavis and
Lincoln-Way East,” he said.
“Although I’m truly honored
to receive this award, I
know it’s definitely ‘not about
Dave,’ but it was a team effort
from the coaches, the secretaries,
the maintenance people to
administration and staff, the
community members and, of
course, the students.”
Although his children
graduated from District 210
before his career at East,
Brost still lives in the Lincoln-Way
area and regularly
follows the success of the
Griffins.
“And as you can see Lincoln-Way
East keeps rolling
on,” he said. “They keep
having success in all areas.
The third-grade boys Lincoln-Way
Xplosion travel
basketball team has had an
outstanding season. As of
Feb. 20, the team’s record
was 21-7 overall and the
team was undefeated 17-0
versus all other third-grade
teams.
The team has won two
championships out of four
tournaments and was also the
first-place champions of the
Boys basketball
LWE 63, Stagg 47
Brandon Petkoff hit five
three-pointers in the third
quarter and the Griffins went
on to steamroll Stagg 63-47
at the Feb. 16 game.
Frankfort ROMA tournament
in November. The boys had
two second-place finishes at
ROMA in December and Joy
of the Game in Deerfield, losing
to two very highly ranked
fourth-grade teams.
Bronson Bates and Zach
Westerberg have been the
leading scorers for the team
this year each with more
than 125 points on the season.
The boys have worked extremely
the entire season. It has
been very rewarding to see
the rapid growth of all the
players on the team.
