UPSI NEWS h t t p : / / w w w . u p s i . e d u . m y / UPSI TO COLLABORATE WITH IESCO UPSI, 19 February - Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the International Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (IESCO) for a period of three years in the hopes that it would build a network of international relations to explore the opportunities of obtaining degree and doctorate students from the Middle East. Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student and Alumni Affairs, Associate Professor Dr. Md Amin Md Taff state that the MoU as a response to a visit made by Middle Eastern delegates (IESCO) along with the Member of the University’s Board of Directors, (Dr.) Ahmad Sani Araby Dato’ Abdul Alim Araby, on the 22nd of March 2017 that aims to promote UPSI at the Middle East. Also signing the memorandum in conjunction with the 1st International Concefrence on Enhancing Educational Opportunities will be held on the 19th and 20th of January 2018 at the Putrajaya Marriot Hotel are International Islamic University Malaysia, The National Energy University (UNITEN) and Gaza Islamic University. The first ever conference was attended by 250 participants from 35 countries and it aims to discuss the future in maintaining the development of education in zones of conflicts. UPSI is represented by Associate Professor Dr. Md Amin Md Taff manakala IESCO is represented by General Manager, Dr. Mahmoud Shakfa and is witnessed by the Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, Head Registrar of UPSI, Dr. Hajah Zainab Othman, and Executive Management of IESCO, Mr. Abdalrahim Shehab. 285 KIC GRADUATES RECEIVE THEIR BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN EDUCATION (PRIMARY SCHOOLS) UPSI, 19 February - A total of 285 graduates of Kirkby International College attained their Bachelor’s Degree for Education (Primary Schools) with Honours at the Kirkby International College Convocation Ceremony 2018 which also serves as the final cohort for the UPSI/KIC Franchising Programme. The President of KIC, Pn. Bismillah Khatoon Abdul Kader, congratulated the graduates for being capable of finishing their studies and hoping that they would strive for even more success by continuing their studies to an even higher degree. “It is with utmost certainty that today’s accomplishments would be shared along with their (the graduates) mothers, fathers, husbands and wives for it is with their unmitigated support and sacrifices that enables our graduates to further their studies and to turn their aspirations into a resounding success,” she elaborated during the ceremony which was held the Main Auditorium. She also reminded her fellow educators in the country to constantly remind themselves that future of the coming generation rests in their hands and that they should strive to educate the coming generations regarding the importance of a peaceful environment through the way they communicate their ideologies and world view. She also added that educators should express their thoughts and advices using persuasion for a gentler approach tend to be much more effective than aggression. 04
UPSI NEWS h t t p : / / w w w . u p s i . e d u . m y / Three IPTS collaborates with UPSI in the field of Early Childhood Education UPSI, 12 January - Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris signed a memorandum of agreement with three Private Higher Learning Institution to collaborate on the expansion on the Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Early Childhood) with Honours Programme. The Vice Chancellor, Profesor Dato’ Dr. Mohammad Shatar Sabran stated that early childhood education programme is an exclusive field in UPSI. “Therefore, the collaboration between UPSI along Islamic International College (IIC), MCS College and the International Institute of Management and Technology will be beneficial to both parties and it further establish UPSI as the best education university in the region,”. “The Chancellor, Her Royal Highness, Tuanku Zara Salim has informed me that it should not matter how many collaborations the university aims to do with other institutions, it should matter that the university ensures its graduates live up to the prodigious nature of the scrolls and the university’s name,” he said during a welcoming speech at the event in Seri Tanjung Hall. He also asks the cooperation of the three aforementioned education institute to emphasize the importance of ensuring the graduates produced are of high quality and capable of fulfilling the job market needs. Through the five year long deal, UPSI, serving as the referent university, and the three Private Higher Learning Institute, will provide the opportunity to produce graduates who are well educated and professional in the field of education, particularly in the field of early childhood education In attendance at the event are: Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohammad Shatar Sabran, who represents UPSI; Datuk Jamaludin Hasan, who represents IIC; Tan Sri Shafie Salleh, who represents MCS and Dr. Steve Yee Seng Seen, who represents IIMAT. Winter Camp 2018 To Promote UPSI to China UPSI, 2 February - A total of 24 students from Xining High School and Gu Yuan Experimental Primary School, both of which were based in Ning Xia, China, participated in the Winter Camp Programme which was facilitated by the Centre of Language and General Studies along with the Mobility Unit of UPSI. According to the Director of the Centre, Mr. Sasigaran Moneyam, the programme was held as a pre-promotion for both the centre and the university in conjunction with the execution of the Visit Malaysia 2020 programme. “Winter Camp aims to promote both UPSI and Malaysia as well as exposing the visiting parties with courses and study programmes offered here in UPSI, particularly at the Centre of Languages and hopefully the participants would serve as a mini ambassador to both carry the image and promotes UPSI and Malaysia to their homeland,” he commented at the Closing Ceremony of Winter Camp 2018. The ceremony was made official by the Chairperson of the Board of Directors Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Mohd Zahid Mohd Noordin, at the Seminar Room, Faculty of Human Development. During the 15 day long ceremony which will last from the 21st of January until the 4th of February. The students, along with their five concierge teachers will be exposed to the culture in Malaysia Among the activities that were held are: Let’s Speak: Language From and Functions Activities, Study Tour to Port Dickson and Putrajaya, Music and Dance Workshop: Malay Drum, Gamelan and Malay Traditional Dance, Learning with Puppetry, Making Traditional Dishes, Batik Drawing and Crafts. 05
