General Meeting Minutes 2-20-18
Boy, these baby pictures are getting harder!
The General Meeting was called to order by
President Andy Anderson at 6:33pm. Minutes
from the January meeting were read. The only
correction – the Hayes have been married 56
years not 53years. With the correction – Chuck
Laningham made a motion to accept the minutes.
Joyce Kroeker seconded. Darlene Derringer gave
the Treasurer’s report. Tonight’s raffle brought
in $280. Winners of the $50 bills were Jill Rosen
and Valerie Merritt. Way to go Girls!!
VP of Public Relations, Dick Johnson welcomed
our newest members, the Merritt’s, sponsored
by Aimee Parkin. Dick contacted our insurance
company and found out our coverage is not
dependent on our members having coverage.
While they applauded our effort, it is not
necessary to keep updated cards in our file, once
a year with your renewal is adequate. We have
new updated business cards. These are great for
giving out to prospective members. Birthdays
totaled 473 years and Anniversaries totaled 150
years. The Merritt’s were
presented with a $25 gift card to
Panera for the longest marriage
this month at 55 years! VP of
Activities, Dick Danielsen went
over the 3 runs we have had
since our last meeting, Movie night, Super Bowl
Party and the well attended (47 members)
Valentine Dinner at Cattlemen’s. There are 5+
future runs, including our annual
President/Mystery Run, June 28 th – July 1st. 12
ladies are headed to Napa to cheer on Judy
Capurro. Check out the newsletter for more
information on all our future runs. Chuck
Laningham collected a mere $1.00 in badge
fines. Debbie Garrison gave her Sunshine and
Clouds report even though her computer was
giving her challenges. Connie Olson is home
following rehab.
Lynne Henenfent’s Mom
passed at age 88. The Hayes welcomed great
grandchild #3.
Old Business – After discussion with Craig
Hansen, Andy is refunding $9.94 (but he is
throwing in a few cents to make it an even $10)
to each couple that attended his last President’s
Run. In the future, Run Leaders will have the
choice of refunding unspent run fees back to the
participates or add it to the Club account.
New Business – The Comer’s and the Hansen’s
have invited club members to join them on a
Cruise that starts in Australia and goes to
Hawaii, in April 2019. For more info, contact
Dale Comer.
Tonight’s baby picture belongs to Tom Piercy.
The bow in the hair threw us all off. No one
guessed correctly, so Tom won a pair of gloves.
Next Board meeting will be at the Derringer’s,
Tuesday, February 27 th at 7pm. Craig Derringer
made a motion to adjourn the meeting at
7:26pm. Ruthie Danielsen seconded.
Respectfully submitted,
Terry Johnson, Secretary
2019 National Corvette Caravan
All roads lead to Bowling Green, Kentucky for the 25th Anniversary of the National Corvette Museum
Frequently Asked Questions, Lodging, Parking, Select a State, Outside USA, News, Caravan Merchandise
Often referred to as the world’s largest moving automotive event, the National Corvette Caravan is a
celebration of America’s Sports Car, culminating in Bowling Green, Kentucky for the anniversary
celebration of the National Corvette Museum. Hosted only once every five years, the next event is
slated for Labor Day Weekend 2019 and will mark the Museum’s 25th Anniversary. Leading the charge
will be Jeffrey Duda of Hainesport, NJ, a Lifetime Member of the Museum and previous co-captain of
the New Jersey 2014 and 2009 Caravans.
The 6th National Corvette Caravan is slated for August 28-31, 2019. Regional caravans will form
and join other caravans as they travel across the United States to meet in Bowling Green, Kentucky
for four days of festivities at the National Corvette Museum. An event such as this requires years of
planning and coordinating. All help is appreciated! The Museum is located at I-65, exit 28 in South
Central Kentucky and is open daily, 8-5 Central Time.
Ok, we have several CVC members that
are interested in going to Bowling Green,
Kentucky in August 2019.
I will keep you informed and we may have
a club speaker soon to tell us more about it
and answer questions.
Stay Tuned!!
I am looking for a Run Co-Captain
for our club to work with me on this!
Pacific Central
Northern California, Northern Nevada, Utah
This is a revised post to the home page for the Northern California – Northern Nevada – Utah
section of the 2014 National Corvette Caravan. I am Don Herzer, Publications Director for the Western
States Corvette Council (WSCC). I served as Captain of the NorCal section of the 2014 Caravan. Since
we had a great time for the most part, they asked me to return as Captain for 2019.
I have elected to give our section a nickname – Pacific Central Corvette Caravan – which is easily
further shortened to Pacific Central and PCCC.
This is much less cumbersome than listing the whole three states. Also, if I shorten it to NorCal (as I
did in 2014), then N. Nevada and Utah feel left out. Please note that even if you are not going all the
way to Bowling Green, you are welcome to join in the Caravan out of CA as far as you like, or just join
us at the launch site (TBD), as many have done in the past.
Our Route: Contrary to my initial posting, I have decided against replicating the 2014 itinerary.
Instead we will take a new route favoring scenic less travelled roads, with fun activities and visits to
unique places along the way. I am still ironing out the details, but here is a rough outline:
• Day 1: We will launch in the morning on Thurs. 8/22 somewhere in the Fairfield area and take
highway 50 through the Sierra, arriving in Carson City in time for lunch and maybe other
activities, and then head to Fallon, NV for other activities and spend the night.
• Day 2 (Friday 8/23): We will travel to Salina, UT along the Loneliest Hiway in the US, with fun
activities TBD.
• Day 3 (Saturday 8/24): Tentatively set to end in Estes Park, CO, Travelling through Rocky Mt.
Ntl. Park.
• Day 4 (Sunday 8/25): Activities around Golden, CO. Overnight in Fort Morgan, CO.
• Day 5 (Monday 8/26): End up in St. Joseph, MO.
• Day 6 (Tuesday 8/27): Get to Effingham, IL and visit Mid-America.
• Day 7 (Wednesday 8/28): On to Bowling Green. We will link up with the So. CA section before
entering Bowling Green so there will be a combined CA/NV group entering the NCM.
Registration for both the Caravan and the festivities is not open at this time. Note that the 2019
Corvette Caravan and the NCM 25th Anniversary are two separate events, each with their own
registration, which is expected to be available on the NCM web site starting in mid-Sept. In the
meantime, I will be working on blocking sets of rooms at hotels along the route, but I don’t expect
registration to be available until approximately fall of 2018. I will be compiling all this and much
more into a Route Book that will be available to registered participants Spring 2019.
If you are serious about going on this section of the Caravan, please send me an email
so I can keep you informed about lodging and optional activities that we may set up.
You can help promote the Caravan by decorating your car with a window sticker, flag(s), and/or a
and availability. If you would like to volunteer to help me in this venture, I would welcome that. I
will also be looking for sponsors to help defray some of the costs. Keep in mind that any donations
are tax deductible. You may reach me via:
Debbie Garrison
We were sad to hear that Lynne Henenfent lost her 88-year old Mom on February 2 nd .
Our sympathies to Lynne and Mike and family.
Chuck and Sharon Hall sent us some sad news about Jim Phillips. Jim and Rachelle Phillips
were members from the early days of our Club and have lived in Morro Bay for some
time. Jim lost his battle with cancer and its effects on Sunday February 18, 2018. Jim was
diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 1993, and has survived through several
bouts of cancer. Last year he developed a serious lung infection, was hospitalized 3 weeks
ago with pneumonia. He was at home receiving hospice care when he passed.
Good news for Connie Olson she is home after breaking several bones in her hand, having
surgery and then spending time in the hospital and then a few weeks at a rehab. She is
now receiving rehab at home. Send her a card to let her know you’re thinking about her.
Ed Kroeker is doing great! He can now ride his stationery bike for 30 minutes and getting
stronger every day. Keeping praying for Ed’s continued progress.
Great News for Joanne Crafton; Charlotte Renna’s sister. Joanne and her husband Mike
Crafton were long time members in the Club some years back. Joanne recently had a
colonoscopy and has now been cancer free for 10 years!!
Terri Parks is attending a Knitting Convention this coming weekend. We’ll have to get a
report at the next meeting.
Charlotte spent some time this month relaxing and enjoying the beautiful sunsets in the
desert. While she was in the desert she honed her skills at sharp shooting with daughter
Michelle and son-in-law JT and posted it on Facebook which earned the nick name of
Dirty Harriette by Don Olsen.
Charlotte was leaving the day after our meeting to go to Vegas with Michelle and JT.
We’ll have to wait until next month to see how lucky she was but with a great Family like
hers; she’s pretty lucky even if she doesn’t win at the slots.
Tom & Marcie were happy to share that they helped celebrate their Great-grandson
Thomas’ first birthday. Congrats!
More Great-grandparent news Diane and Mike Hayes will soon welcome their 3 rd Great-
Grandchild. Congrats to them also.
David and Lori Dukes spent the past weekend at the Coast with their grandson James.
They are going to have James who is 8 years, autistic and very busy living with them for
the next 2 months. David asks that you keep him in your prayers! Lori also babysits their
three-year-old granddaughter Maisie every week. They are going to be very tired
grandparents.
That’s it for me this month. Sorry if I missed something, please email me your Sunshine or
Clouds anytime.
Your Sunshine Girl, Debbie G.

2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1: The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette celebrates its return to the
engine under the hood: A 6.2-liter V8 that's supercharged in order to create 755 horsepower,
and it mates to either a seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. The Corvette
ZR1 is rear-wheel-drive only. Available features include performance data recorder, two
adjustable aero packages, in-car Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, leather seats,
Mid-Engine Chevrolet Corvette Looks
Ready For 2018 Debut!
By Staff Reporter | February 10, 2018
It is no secret that GM’s Chevrolet Corvette is moving into a different style and it is one that
involves a mid-engine setup. This is a first for a Corvette and the mid-engine configuration would
mean seeing the car trying to compete with the mainstream supercars. But when exactly can we
expect to see the mid-engine Corvette in action?
This is a question that has no answers at the moment but we do have clues that can offer a rough
idea on the debut date for the highly anticipated car. The clues are in the form of spy shots and
the latest shots have surfaced earlier today to show-off a car that looks ready to make its first
public appearance. The shots are shared on Autoblog and you can see that the exterior design is
now established. Furthermore, the car has been doing performance tests for countless times
already and we don’t think that there is much more to be done with the car.
In other words, there is a strong potential for the mid-engine Corvette to debut this year via a
major auto show and we will get back here once we receive more information on the matter.
Activities
Schedule
I know I am beginning to sound like a broken record; however, the new year is
underway and, as you can see from the scheduled activities, we are off to a
rather slow beginning. Since January 1 st , including the below listed runs, we
only have a total of 10 events. Please “put on your thinking caps” and begin to
formulate some good ideas for runs this year-----if you have some thoughts for a
run but maybe are a bit unsure as to how to go about putting everything
together, ask me or most any other “old” member for assistance as we would be
glad to help you. Remember, the more runs we do, the more fun we will have!
Girls Run to Judy Capurro’s
Twelve of our Corvette/Domino group went to Napa to honor Judy Capurro for her loss of
Gordon. Due to their hospitality it seemed they honored us. Judy lives in a lovely cottage beside
her daughters beautiful home that is surrounded by vineyards. We spent the day visiting &
playing dominos. We gathered in Frieda’s room for before dinner drinks then on to an Italian
restaurant. Of course we returned back to the motel for more dominos. It was a wonderful trip.
