The Rite of Baptism<br />
Earlier in this issue, our featured interviews were with those going through the<br />
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) process. For those who have never<br />
been baptized, baptism is the first sacrament of initiation that they will receive<br />
at the Easter vigil. Take a moment to reflect on the words below, taken from<br />
the baptismal rite, and the new life that God has given you through your own<br />
baptism.<br />
Anointing after baptism<br />
The God of power and Father of our Lord Jesus<br />
Christ has freed you from sin, given you a new<br />
birth by water and the Holy Spirit, and welcomed<br />
you into his holy people. He now anoints<br />
you with the chrism of salvation. As Christ was<br />
anointed Priest, Prophet, and King, so may you<br />
live always as a member of his body, sharing<br />
everlasting life.<br />

Clothing with the white garment<br />
You have become a new creation, and have<br />
clothed yourself in Christ. See in this white garment<br />
the outward sign of your Christian dignity.<br />
With your family and friends to help you by word<br />
and example, bring that dignity unstained into<br />
the everlasting life of heaven.<br />
