About the Contributors<br />

María Ángeles Pérez was awarded her master’s degree <strong>in</strong> Telecommunications Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g (1996)<br />

<strong>and</strong> her PhD (1999). She has been work<strong>in</strong>g as a lecturer at the University of Valladolid s<strong>in</strong>ce October<br />

1996. She has experience <strong>in</strong> coord<strong>in</strong>at<strong>in</strong>g projects related to telematic applications for the Information<br />

Society, ma<strong>in</strong>ly concern<strong>in</strong>g the application of <strong>in</strong>formation <strong>and</strong> communication technologies (ICT) to the<br />

learn<strong>in</strong>g process. She also has experience <strong>in</strong> the evaluation of preproposals, proposals, <strong>and</strong> f<strong>in</strong>al reports<br />

of projects cofunded by the European Commission. She is author or co-author of various publications<br />

<strong>and</strong> contributions to conferences.<br />

Krassie Petrova is a senior lecturer at the School of Comput<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> Mathematical Sciences at<br />

Auckl<strong>and</strong> University of Technology, Auckl<strong>and</strong>, New Zeal<strong>and</strong>. She has over 10 years of <strong>in</strong>ternational<br />

experience of consult<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>formation systems development <strong>and</strong> management, <strong>and</strong> over 15 years of<br />

university teach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> research <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>formation systems, programm<strong>in</strong>g, data communications, <strong>and</strong><br />

networks. Krassie has published <strong>and</strong> presented <strong>in</strong> New Zeal<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternationally. Her research areas<br />

are e- <strong>and</strong> m-learn<strong>in</strong>g, IS/IT curriculum development <strong>and</strong> student skills <strong>and</strong> capabilities build<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>and</strong><br />

mobile bus<strong>in</strong>ess (<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g mobile applications, adoption, <strong>and</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess models). Currently, Krassie is<br />

the programme leader of the Master of Computer <strong>and</strong> Information Sciences (MCIS), <strong>and</strong> the co-editor<br />

of the New Zeal<strong>and</strong> Bullet<strong>in</strong> of Applied Comput<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> Information Technology (BACIT). See also<br />

Estrella Pulido received a degree <strong>in</strong> Computer Science (1989) from the Facultad de Informática of<br />

the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. She worked <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustry from 1987 until 1991, <strong>in</strong> R&D departments.<br />

She obta<strong>in</strong>ed an MSc <strong>in</strong> Artificial Intelligence with honours from the University of Bristol (1992)<br />

<strong>and</strong> was granted with a faculty fellowship from the same University to carry out a PhD (1996). She has<br />

worked at the Escuela Politécnica Superior of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid s<strong>in</strong>ce October 1996,<br />

where she has held an associate professor position s<strong>in</strong>ce July 2000. She has worked on several projects<br />

related to Web-based education <strong>and</strong> user adaptation.<br />

Luisa M. Regueras was awarded her master’s degree <strong>in</strong> Telecommunications Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> 1998<br />

<strong>and</strong> her PhD (2003). She has worked as a lecturer at the University of Valladolid <strong>in</strong> Spa<strong>in</strong> s<strong>in</strong>ce 1999,<br />

<strong>and</strong> is actively <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g projects related to the application of ICT to the learn<strong>in</strong>g process<br />

(e-learn<strong>in</strong>g) <strong>and</strong> telecommunication networks. Her present work <strong>in</strong>volves research <strong>in</strong>to new e-learn<strong>in</strong>g<br />

technologies. She is author or co-author of various publications <strong>and</strong> contributions to national <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>ternational conferences <strong>and</strong> congresses.<br />

Angélica Rísquez BA (psych), MBS. Angélica has been a researcher at the Centre for Teach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong><br />

Learn<strong>in</strong>g at the University of Limerick s<strong>in</strong>ce 2003. She is committed to the use of <strong>in</strong>novative teacher<br />

<strong>and</strong> student support mechanisms at third level. From 2004 to 2006, she was responsible for design<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

coord<strong>in</strong>at<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>and</strong> evaluat<strong>in</strong>g a program of peer e-mentor<strong>in</strong>g to facilitate first year students’ adjustment<br />

to university. She is currently <strong>in</strong>volved on the implementation of the learn<strong>in</strong>g management system at<br />

her <strong>in</strong>stitution as a technology enhanced learn<strong>in</strong>g facilitator. She also supports the use of plagiarism<br />

prevention software, <strong>and</strong> is <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>itiatives <strong>in</strong>volv<strong>in</strong>g us<strong>in</strong>g technology for <strong>in</strong>tercultural education,<br />

research skills, <strong>and</strong> so forth.<br />
