Headteacher and Principal Induction

Specific Training

Specific Training Related to the needs of the children and young people Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) - Compulsory Training Some children and young people avoid and resist everyday demands and expectations to an extreme extent. They may use social strategies as part of avoidance, e.g. distracting, giving excuses. They may experience excessive mood swings and impulsivity and appear comfortable in role play and pretence. In addition, some children and young people may display obsessive behaviours that is often focused on other people. Demand avoidant behaviours are rooted in an anxiety-based need to be in control. As part of your specialised training package you will be guided through an e–booklet which shows you how to better understand this condition and it will give you simple strategies as to how you can best support children and young people with PDA. Specific Training Related to the needs of the children and young people Social, Emotional, Heath Education (SEMH) - Compulsory Training We have some children and young people within Aurora settings who encounter SEMH difficulties. This is an overarching term for children and young people who demonstrate difficulties with emotional regulation and/or social interaction and/or are experiencing mental health problems. They often show inappropriate responses and feelings to situations. Young people with SEMH often feel anxious, scared and misunderstood. It is our job to understand and help them feel calm and courageous. As part of your specialist training you will have an awareness programme and an e-learning module that will cover what it is, how it can effect children and young people and strategies that we use to help develop a sense of wellbeing. It will include Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD) Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Tourette's Syndrome and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). In addition you will meet with our Mental Health First Aider who will give an overview of our work within this area. Empowering Uniqueness
