Applica on – Reported Comments<br />

POWDERS<br />

• The SupraNano powders li well and have much less propensity to smudge on acetate sheet<br />

• In general SupraNano powders are finer and give a much smoother applica on.<br />

• The SupraNano black magne c powder gives much less background staining.<br />

• The SupraNano Black powder can be enhanced with a sweeping mo on while the excess is removed using<br />

a clean brush.<br />

• SupraNano magne c powders also work well with large flat magne c wands.<br />

• SupraNano Fluorescent magne c powders with UV light are ideal for use on busy backgrounds e.g. paper<br />

currency giving good contrast and defini on.<br />

SUPRANANO SUSPENSION SPRAY<br />

• The suspensions are at their best in outdoor scenes that have been we ed and dried or are s ll wet.<br />

For example the outside of vehicles, UPVC windows/doors, glass, painted surfaces like fences and<br />

even engineered/glazed bricks. Any semi smooth, no-porous/semi porous surface can be sampled.<br />

• The Black suspension has been shown to work successfully on painted surfaces and Zinc coated security fences.<br />

• The suspensions are designed to fluoresce at different wavelengths within the light spectrum while elimina ng<br />

background interference under certain wavelengths. For example the Yellow Suspension is highly fluorescent<br />

under UV long wave and blue light (300 – 450 nm) and is an excellent choice for many surfaces. The Green<br />

Suspension is op mal under blue light (400 – 450 nm) and can be filtered using a band pass filter (yellow 470nm) for more specific searching.<br />

Suspension Spray User Guide:<br />

1. Shake the bo le to suspend the par cles. (Ensure that<br />

the bo le nozzle is set to OFF in order to prevent spla er<br />

when shaking)<br />

2. Switch the nozzle bo le to SPRAY and aim the<br />

suspension at the desired surface that you wish to<br />

develop ridge detail on. On large surfaces start at the<br />

bo om and work your way up sampling areas about<br />

50cm x 50cm.<br />

3. Gently spray the suspension evenly across the surface,<br />

allow to run down the surface for a few moments and to<br />

fully soak the area.<br />

4. The spray can be concentrated on areas to build up<br />

ridge detail as needed for weak marks.


5. Rinse the surface to remove excess suspension. This<br />

can be done by either pouring or spraying water from<br />

above that then flows down the surface removing excess<br />

powder. This can be done using a standard garden pump<br />

sprayer or jug. Ensure that the surface is completely clean<br />

of un-adhered suspension. Do not spray water with force<br />

directly at a visible mark as it may damage the developed<br />

ridge detail.<br />

6. If available to do so allow the visible mark to dry<br />

before a emp ng to li . The mark can be li ed using<br />

standard fingerprint li ing tape, hinge li er, Crystal<br />

tab or Gel li er however, if me is of the essence then<br />

photograph the mark in situa on before using a standard<br />

gel li er to li the wet mark. This should be done very<br />

gently and do not allow the Gel to slip as the mark will<br />

be damaged. Once li ed onto the gel place into a gel<br />

box and allow the gel to dry in a vehicle or lab. DO NOT<br />

cover the gel with acetate whilst the mark is s ll wet.<br />

7. Once all the visible marks have been<br />

li ed the area that<br />

has been examined can be cleaned down<br />

using soap<br />

and water.<br />

8. The developed ridge detail can be visualised<br />

using the<br />

correct light source and band pass filter.<br />

ULTRA PURE CSI DFO<br />

DFO (1,8-Diazafluoren-9-one) is a reagent that (like ninhydrin) reacts with the amino acids present in fingerprints.<br />

The areas of applica on are the same: porous surfaces like paper, unpainted wood and the like.<br />

A fingerprint developed with DFO is less visible in white light than a er treatment with ninhydrin but with<br />

green light (about 530 nm), it fluoresces strongly. The fluorescence is viewed and photographed through<br />

orange or red filter (goggles). Our DFO is prepared exclusively for Crime Sciences Inc. by the Casali Ins -<br />

tute of Applied Chemistry. Purity makes the difference, and our DFO is of the highest purity (>99%), with<br />

each batch analyzed by HPLC, with a cer ficate of analysis available. Don’t take a chance: eliminate one<br />

more poten al variable in your formula on, by only using our highest purity material. We can supply any<br />

ULTRA PURE CSI 1,2-Indanedione<br />

Indanediones can visulalize latent fingerprints as well as, or even be er than, DFO. Its ease of prepara<br />

on, lower cost, and good solubility make it an excellent addi on to your fingerprint development<br />

arsenal. Professor Yosef Almog, former head of the Israel Police division of iden fica on<br />

and forensic science (DIFS) and now a researcher at the Casali Ins tute of Applied Chemistry, coordinated<br />

the team that developed the reagent, including Professor Madeleine Joullié and her graduate<br />

students, Dr. Diane Hauze and Dr. Olga Petrovskaia, from the University of<br />

Pennsylvania (Upenn). During the evalua on of the compounds at the<br />

U.S. Secret Service (USSS) by Dr. Tony Cantu and Robert Ramotowski, it<br />

was discovered that these compounds were also capable of visualizing<br />

latent prints. The powdered compound is very stable. However,<br />

working solu ons should be made up whenever needed and should not be kept for extended periods. Like Ninhydrin,<br />

latent prints visualized with Indanediones can be treated with zinc chloride to slow the fading of visible and luminescent<br />

detail. In general, an increase in fluorescence is also observed a er treatment with zinc chloride. Prints developed<br />

this way fluoresce at 530 nm like DFO, and can be viewed with a filter at 570 to 590 nm. Picture on le shows a<br />

fingerprint cut in half, and treated with DFO on le side, and 1,2-IND on right side, under green light.<br />
