Presently, I hope that Thou wilt treat all the Ummat-i-Muhammadî ‘sall- Allâhu ta’âlâ ’alaihi wa sallam’ with ’afw (forgiveness) and maghfirat (compassion)”. This person also is a martyr. The blessed angels wrap that fortunate soul in the garments (that they have brought with them. At that moment a voice from Haqq ta’âlâ says: “Take that soul to Paradise! For, he (or she) used to perform namâz more than others did and he (or she) liked having guests, and forgave people their faults and guilts, and said ‘Istighfâr’ very often. And he (or she) made dhikr of Me so much. And he (or she) never went out without properly covering themselves. And he (or she) avoided harâms. And he (or she) obeyed Prophets and Islam, in the world.” Now, the two angels on a person’s both shoulders and who are charged with recording that person’s good and evil deeds supplicate: “Yâ Rabbî! You have made us responsible for this person in the world. And now, please give us permission to ascend to heavens with this person’s soul. The voice coming from the Most Great says: “You stay by that person’s grave, say tasbîh and tekbîr and make sajda and donate the thawâb (for all those acts of worship) to that slave of Mine.” Thereupon they continuously make dhikr and tasbîh and record the thawâb in that person’s book, and this process continues until the end of the world. [AN IMPORTANT NOTE: The munâfiqs living in Egypt revolted against the (rightly-guided) Khalîfa ’Uthmân ‘radiy- Allâhu ’anh’ and came to Medîna to kill him. Their accomplices in Medîna supported them with lies and slanders. They vilified the Sahâba by spreading the gossip that “Muslims in Medîna did not help the Khalîfa.” The fact, however, was that the Khalîfa’s purpose was to attain the high ranks of martyrs in Paradise, and he was praying to Allâhu ta’âlâ for that greatest blessing. Other Muslims came to help him, but he requested them not to do anything about the matter. He sent them back. Taking advantage of this, the rebels martyred the Khalîfa easily. Thereby he attained his wish. His supplications had been accepted (by Allâhu ta’âlâ). Martyrs do not feel any pain as they die. The blessings to be given to them in Paradise are shown to them, so that they surrender their souls willingly to the angels as they rejoice at the rewards awaiting them.] – 268 –

CONCERNING the DISBELIEVER’S DEATH When a disbeliever or a murtadd (renegade) or an idiot who despises Islam and calls the Qur’ân al-kerîm ‘desert law’ and who is as igorant and as immoral as to call Muhammad ‘’alaihis-salâm’, –the highest and the most honourable human being and the master of all Prophets–, ‘camel-herd’ –may Allâhu ta’âlâ protect us against such an ignoble act–, and who stoops to saying that religions are unnecessary as the result of an evaluation of Islam, –the mainstay of social peace and happiness, the source of knowledge, ethics, cleanliness, health and justice, and the edifier of all cultures, –made under the niggardly criteria of an addle brain which is as noisome as a box of carcasses,– and who is no more than a plaything in the hands of his own nafs–, is about to die, the curtain before his eyes is raised. Paradise is shown to him. A beautiful angel says to him: “O you, disbeliever! O you, ignoble person, who used to call Muslims ‘fuddy-duddies’, and people who ran after their lusts and who trampled on ethical principles ‘illuminated and modern people’! You have been in the wrong way. You have been despising Islam, right religion. People who have believed and respected the teachings which Muhammad ‘’alaihis-salâm’ brought from Allâhu ta’âlâ shall enter this place, Paradise.” He sees the blessings in Paradise. And the houris of Paradise say: “People who have îmân will be saved from the torment to be inflicted by Allâhu ta’âlâ.” Thereafter the Satan appears in the guise of a priest and says: “O you, so and so, the son of so and so! Those who were with you a while ago are liars. Those blessings shall be all yours.” Then Hell is shown to him. It contains mountains of fire, scorpions and centipedes as big as mules. He sees the torments stated in hadîth-isherîfs. Angels of torment from Hell, called Zebânîs (or Zabânîs), hit with sticks of fire. Flames exude from their mouths. They are as tall as minarets, and their teeth are like horns of oxen. Their call sounds like thunder. The disbeliever shudders at their voices and turns his face towards the Satan. So frightened is the Satan that he turns tail. The angels catch the Satan and knock him down. Accosting the disbeliever, they say: “O you, the enemy of Islam! In the world you have been denying the Messenger of Allah ‘sall- Allâhu ta’âlâ ’alaihi wa sallaml’. And now you deny the angels, and once again the accursed Satan deceives you.” They hang chains of fire on his neck, pull his legs up to his head, so that his feet are on the back of his head now, and make his right hand thrust into the left hand side of his chest and his left hand into his right flank, – 269 –
