Letter from PRESIDENT ROLLINS Morehouse Community, I am Kamren Rollins, a senior English major, from Washington, DC and I have the distinct honor of serving as the 86th Student Government President (SGA) and Student Trustee of Morehouse College. As the President of the SGA it is my job to ensure that the student body’s voice and interests are both represented and protected. It is my responsibility to be a champion for student rights and well-being. By focusing on our strategic plan and operational goals to we have been able to make significant strides towards positioning some of the key issues that will impact students at the College for years to come. This semester the Noble Administration decided to take it one step further. It was our goal to not only advocate for the student body, but also to impact students in a transformative way. We wanted to develop students holistically by implementing programs, shifting dialogue, and creating policies that forced all of us to take an honest inventory of ourselves. The programs and initiatives that we developed were designed to purposefully engage the student body so each program reflected the specific on-campus climate or explored the perpetual problems that were deeply rooted within our communities. Our major goal was to fulfill our pledge to Morehouse College by engaging and serving communities that border our institution and those that were some distance away; thus, we decided to organize the 3rd annual Get on the Bus trip, partnered with the SGAs of the Atlanta University Center to host a Mayoral Forum, and we created initiatives such as the My Brother’s Legacy Tour. As student leaders, we realize the responsibility that we must serve the student body, the college, and our communities properly and effectively. We understand that we have the influence to bring about change, and we have a chance to leave a lasting impression on the entire Morehouse community. We do not take this responsibility lightly. Yet and still, we sometimes find ourselves troubled with the fear of not accomplishing all that we have set out to do. No matter what magnitude we dedicate to our positions we still sometimes walk away feeling like we haven’t quite done enough. So, I would like to dedicate this midterm report to the student leaders, whether you have an official position on campus or in the community, I want to thank you for your passion and unwavering commitment; you represent an organ of Morehouse that is essential to the survival of its strong legacy. I would like to kindly thank you, the student body, for your continuous love and support that you have gifted us. Throughout the first half of this journey, your belief and confidence in us have made this experience truly remarkable. We look forward to continuing the work that we have done to enhance the student experience and to uplift our communities. “We have to learn how to die well. Death is inevitable, so how will you live?” – Dr. Illya Davis Into Ties More Brotherly, KAMREN ROLLINS 2017-2018 SGA President and Student Trustee M I D T E R M R E P O R T 3
