MARCH 2018 Westminster

MARCH 2018 Westminster Abbey - ‘Faith at the heart of the nation’ On Saturday 17 th February, we entered Westminster Abbey using the Parish Pass. This enabled us to gain free entry to this wonderful building which is steeped in British history. [The Parish Pass is valid for up to 4 adults and 2 children] On entry, we were given audio guides which gave a comprehensive tour of the Abbey, narrated by Jeremy Irons. This was presented on a ‘smart’ device, and included maps, videos and interviews with some of the Abbey staff. We learnt such a lot about the history of our monarchy and the many important figures that are buried or commemorated there. On the hour, visitors are asked to pause for a brief moment of prayer and to remember that, among the hustle and bustle, the Abbey is, first and foremost, a place of worship. Westminster Abbey is so vast with several side chapels that we spent almost 3 hours there. There was so much to see that we could have easily spent longer if time had allowed. We really enjoyed our visit and would encourage anyone else planning a trip to London to take the Parish Pass with them! We advise that you check opening times on the Westminster Abbey website ( for the date you intend to visit, as public opening times vary due to certain events. E.g. on the day we went, the Abbey was only open to visitors from 9am to 1pm. Roger and Julia Pullen GOING TO LONDON? Westminster Abbey has kindly given St Thomas’ Church a Parish Pass for 2018. The pass admits up to 4 adults/students or children 6-16 years free of charge. (Children up to the age of 5 are admitted free to the abbey if accompanied by an adult). To use the Parish Pass, at least one of the adults must be on the Electoral Roll of St Thomas’ Church, Market Rasen. The pass may be used on six separate occasions by the Parish during 2018.
