MARCH 2018 Market Rasen

MARCH 2018 Market Rasen Primary School Welcome to our Spring contribution to the church newsletter. Our children have recently enjoyed their half term holiday and have been participating in WOW days to celebrate their new topics. Year One and Two are focusing on the circus this term and enjoyed coming to school dressed as circus performers and participating in lots of circus activities, including juggling and spinning plates. Year Five and Six are beginning their art focused topic and Year Three and Four continue with their Young Entrepreneurs topic where they have been writing to lots of chefs and businesses to help with tips to running their own cafes at the end of the term. We are busy planning our Mothers’ Day and Easter services and we are looking forward to visiting St. Thomas’ Church to perform to our parents. We are also going to be involved in safety week, where we will look at water, fire and internet safety across the year groups. We have recently refurbished our dining hall into a new, fantastic library. Holly and Esme have enjoyed the opportunity to read a variety of unique stories. They feel that the books will help our children improve their reading and writing skills. A group of our older children enjoy the role of librarians and children are encouraged to use the library at lunch times. Classes also visit the library and continue to visit Market Rasen Library to enjoy a reading session linked to their current topic. We will be celebrating World Book Day at the beginning of March where we always enjoy dressing up as our favourite book characters and participating in lots of exciting activities throughout the day. We always look forward to the outfits our children and their parents create to celebrate World Book Day. We will also be holding a book fair at school to help raise funds to purchase additional books for our school library. We have lots of sports competitions planned, including a Year Three / Four multi skills event. We enjoyed participating in a recent swimming competition and a group of Key Stage Two children worked hard with Mr Toothill to rehearse a dance routine to perform at a dance competition in Skegness. The children were a credit to us and were awarded a values trophy for their contribution to the event and support for other groups who were participating. As ever, our term is a busy one with Year Three and Four children looking forward to their residential visit to Rand Farm Park this term and lots of trips and visitors planned for the other year groups. Our children continue to enjoy their cooking in the curriculum lessons with Mrs Barnes and we are continuing to run lots of after school clubs, including working with a local golf coach and dance school teacher. We are looking forward to sharing more of our exciting curriculum activities with you in future issues. If you would like any further information or to discuss anything with us, please phone the School Office on 01673 842395 or visit our website at You can also follow us on Twitter at @NorthWoldsFed where you will find out more about what we have been doing in school. 20

MARCH 2018 Emmaus A good time was had by all when our Emmaus group met up for a meal at The Olive in Market Rasen on the 9 th of February. The food was delicious and plentiful, and the conversation flowed as we enjoyed catching up with one another’s news and had an opportunity to wish Zeph and Dave Lawes well as they prepared to relocate to Winchester. It really is great to have the chance to spend time together like this and we’re always happy to welcome new members so if you’re aged 30-50 and would like to join us do look out for the date of our next meet-up in April.
