At Southbrook Park, the hosts set Lincoln a target of 170 after fringe Canterbury player Jack Boyle and ‘Brook mainstay Matt Brine put on a classy 105-run partnership before a Southbrook shuffle saw the home side lose nine wickets for 65. Country opener Joel Harden got the run chase off to a solid start before Canterbury Kings T20 star Jeremy Benton smashed 54 to help his team home in a nail-biter, eight wickets down with three balls to spare. Weedons upset Cheviot chasing down a meagre 116 with five wickets in hand. Extras top-scored with 24 as Cheviot could only scrape together 116 at Cheviot Domain. Devon Nightingale and Lochie Stove each grabbed three wickets. SELWYN TIMES Oxford-Rangiora ensured their place in country cricket’s top flight competition next season after a dominant win over Darfield- South Malvern on Saturday. The combined side’s eightwicket win makes it five wins out of eight for the year after a tough start to the competition. On a damp wicket at Oxford’s No 2 ground, the home side won the toss and elected to bowl first. Darfield-South Malvern got off to a flying start with Nick Jenkins and Chris Warner taking the team through to 57/0 after 12 overs. Oxford-Rangiora clawed their way back into the match with off-spinner Mark Murphy picking up 3/16 off his nine overs and Nathan Cook 3/27 off eight overs as Darfield-South Malvern crumbled to be all out for 110. The pressure was on Oxford- Rangiora to chase down the runs and keep them in the premier grade next season. They were soon reduced to 30/2, but Calvin Scott, battling on with his nose still broken from two weeks earlier, made a gritty 30 not out while David Fulton found his form later in the innings and finished with an unbeaten 48.
