MAILBOX TAMPERING
When a mailbox is put into use for the purposes of sending
and receiving mail, it becomes federal property.
Mailbox tampering is considered any act that interferes with
another person’s letter box or other receptacle.
This can include:
• destruction of the mailbox itself
• theft of mailbox contents
• the placement of items in a mail receptacle by persons
other than postal employees
• any action intended to obstruct or damage mail
or mailbox property
In short, anyone, other than mail recipients and postal
employees, should NOT touch a mailbox or its contents.
RECREATION CARDS
Bear Creek Plantation residents will now be able to apply
for a recreation card online at www.bcpcai.com through the
community website. Our new application can be found, once
logged in, under eforms. We will still accept applications
which are emailed, mailed or faxed; they can be found on the
website under documents.
BE SURE ADDRESS IS CLEAR FROM THE STREET
County officials want to remind residents of the Ordinance 5.3 requiring that
addresses or building numbers be legible and visible from the street. The
section states the numbers must be in Arabic numerals at least four inches in
height and clearly visible. The number should be placed on, above or at the
side of the main entrance so the number is clearly visible from the public right
away. Whenever a home entrance is more than 50 feet from a public right away,
a number should also be placed at the end of a driveway or property entrance.
WATCH FOR KIDS WHILE DRIVING
The roads are once again crawling with school busses, teenage drivers
and kids in the crosswalk, so please slow down when going through the
neighborhood. Now that kids will be back on their way to school, it’s time
to double and triple check those intersections, just when you think it’s all
systems go, a late for school student will magically appear out of nowhere
and dart across the street when you least anticipate it. Thank you!
BUDGET AND HOMEOWNER INPUT
Your all-volunteer Board of Directors is here to serve you. Meetings are held
monthly at the clubhouse on Greenhouse, always on the third Tuesday at
7:00 PM Please plan to attend in person and/or provide your input via email
to MGMT@KPMmanagement.com or call 281-685-3090.
Your input can be a driving force in the annual budget decisions, primarily helping
the Board understand what the neighborhood would like to see in regards to
future capital improvement projects. You can also influence all sorts of future
decision making processes, simply by providing input at or before meetings.
Finally, if you are truly interested in dedicating some of your time to our
community, consider serving on the Board of Directors in the future. Let the
management company know you are interested and if there is an interim
opportunity, the Board might be able to elect you directly or you could get your
name on the ballot for the annual meeting in February. See a need for a special
committee or volunteer-driven project? Don’t hesitate to bring it up and help
recruit additional help.
PARKING CARS IN THE STREET
We realize it is sometimes necessary to park your cars in the street. The
neighborhood bylaws prohibit the parking of inoperable vehicles in the
street and operable vehicles are expected to be regularly used/moved when
parked there. We ask that you do your best to be aware of your neighbors’
driveways when parking streetside, so you do not block their ability to safely
get in and out. Also, please try not to park directly across from a driveway, as
this is a common cause of accidents. While we all should take extra caution
when backing out, we are creatures of habit and we tend to get into a routine
and in a hurry, so we might not notice that there is a new obstacle waiting
for us across the street. That scene has played out on a number of occasions
already. Thanks in advance for continuing to look out for each other.
RECEIVE A DEED RESTRICTION VIOLATION LETTER?
KPM Management is the company hired by our neighborhood association to
manage many aspects of our deed-restricted community. They provide many
accounting, administrative and consulting services that help to increase
safety and maximize our property values, while working with the all-volunteer
Board of Directors to keep our annual dues at a minimum. As a result, they
are expected to patrol the neighborhood throughout the month, on varying
days to look for deed restriction violations. In general, we ask them to
generate the first “reminder” letter automatically when they see a violation
or whenever they confirm one, which came from a neighbor complaint. If you
have a unique situation, which might result in the need to temporarily violate
the deed restrictions, please give them a call at 281-685-3090 and let them
know the situation and the expected time frame, so we can avoid the issuance
of any unnecessary letters. Keep in mind, occasionally mistakes are made and
the wrong address receives a letter - the best thing to do in this and all other
situations is to contact the management company to make them aware of the
mistake and/or to let them know that you have either corrected the situation or
need a temporary exemption from the covenant.

For fairness’ sake, the Board of Directors asks the management company to
call ‘em like they see ‘em, assuming they have received no advanced notice of
extenuating circumstances, but in truth, they will not ever be able to identify
every single possible violation on each and every drive through, nor do we think
the scrutiny necessary for such is in the best interest of our community. The
ultimate responsibility of the Board of Directors is to make decisions regarding
situations where the homeowner simply refuses to comply with the community’s
established covenants, in spite of repeated “reminder” attempts. We typically
hope the individual can give us a defensible reason for giving an exception or
temporary reprieve and the last thing any of us want is to be in conflict with any
of our neighbors, but we are nonetheless tasked with the expectation that we
uphold the community’s by-laws. With that said, on a typical week, less than 6%
of the homeowners receive deed restriction letters and the vast majority have
already taken or do quickly take action to correct them.
As your fellow neighbors, we appreciate every one of you who have taken
measures to correct any problems that may have arisen over the years. We
also definitely appreciate your willingness to work with us to do whatever
is in our community’s control to maintain the maximum possible property
values for everyone. When we all work together, we minimize the cost and
maximize the benefit for the community at large. Oh and by the way, no
need to get offended if you do receive a letter, as many, if not most of us
can relate to the experience for one reason or another. Thanks again!
BE AWARE OF THEFT POTENTIAL
Many of us have a habit of leaving the garage door open when we are
working or relaxing in the backyard. Unfortunately, people in virtually
every neighborhood lose property to opportunistic thieves this way
every year. Bicycles and power tools are just a few of the commonly
stolen things and keep in mind that it only takes a matter of seconds
for something of significant value to “walk away.” Please keep those
doors down when you are not in eyesight of the garage.
ATTENTION RESIDENT-BUSINESS OWNERS
Do you have a professional service or product that the Homeowners’
Association can utilize for community improvements? If so, please
let us know what you have to offer and we will do our best to use
your business for future improvements to our neighborhood when
needed. We would rather the money from the annual dues go to
benefit our own neighbors when possible, rather than using an
outside business or vendor. We’ll also be happy to publicize your
business on our community Facebook page.

A great spring-break vacation doesn’t need to break the bank. Whether
you’re exploring a cool city or lounging on the beach, you can beat
the winter blues with a budget spring break. Check out these budget
friendly hot spots:
Washington, DC: It doesn’t cost a dime to enjoy Washington, DC’s
culture and history, especially during the Cherry Blossom Festival
when the city is awash in delicate white and pink blossoms. Free
events during the 2-week-long festival in early April include cultural
performances, fireworks and a parade. There’s no charge for the
main event - the stunning trees framing the Tidal Basin and around
the Washington Monument.
Ocho Rios, Jamaica: Jamaica is a popular spot for the spring-break
party crowd, but families can find fun for a bargain at the Beaches
Boscobel Resort and Golf Club. This all-inclusive resort boasts 5
restaurants, 6 bars and 1 super cool water park with 9 twisting slides
and kiddie pools.
Sanibel Island, FL: Spring break falls during Sanibel Island’s high season
from February to April when the weather is perfect and shelling
along the sandy shores is at its best.
Seattle, WA: You can explore Pike Place Market with your wallet intact,
if you can exercise willpower at the nearly 200 shops and restaurants
and both admission and parking are free at the Frye Art Museum.
Daylight Saving Time (DST) is often wrongly referred to as “Daylight Savings,”
with an “s” at the end. Other common variations are “Summer Time” and “Daylight-Saving
Time.”
The term “Daylight Savings Time” is very commonly used, especially in Australia,
Canada and the United States. It’s likely that the incorrect term “savings”
entered the popular vocabulary because it’s so often used in everyday contexts,
like “savings account.”
At the beginning of the DST period in the spring, clocks are moved forward,
usually by 1 hour. When DST ends in fall (autumn), clocks are turned back again.
DST does not add daylight, but it gives more usable hours of daylight. In that
sense, DST “saves” daylight, especially during early spring. Standard time refers
to time without DST.

• Plant vegetables such as tomatoes, sweet corn and snap beans and
pepper, as well as cucumbers, lima or butter beans, cantaloupe, okra
(if the soil has warmed sufficiently - 70 degrees F. or higher), southern
peas, pumpkin, squash, peanuts and watermelon.
LAWN
• Re-sod or replant as needed with turfgrasses adapted to this part of
Texas and suited to the planting location (shade or sun).
• When resodding semi-shaded areas with St. Augustine, use ONLY
the variety Floratam for best pest resistance. See www.plantanswers.
com/grass.htm.
TREES AND SHRUBS
• Plant container-grown trees and shrubs as soon as possible. In shady
areas, where grass is difficult to grow, consider planting a dependable
groundcover such as English ivy, Asian jasmine, vinca or one of the
prostrate junipers.
• Prune spring flowering and evergreen shrubs during early March.
However, be sure to prune spring flowering shrubs after they have
bloomed.
• Fertilize with a pre-plant application of a slow-release fertilizer
analysis such as 19 - 5 - 9 at the rate of 3 pounds per 100 square feet
of garden planting area. Early March is the ideal time to fertilize
landscape plants because you give them food just before the spring
growing season starts.

CFISD Livestock Show and Sale
LIVESTOCK SHOW AND SALE GENERATES
NEARLY $340,000 FOR PROJECTS
CFISD students and the high school FFA programs showcased another successful
CFISD Livestock Show and Sale, its 24 th year, on Feb. 8 th -10 th at the CFISD Exhibit Center.
Even with the entire greater Houston area recovering from Hurricane Harvey and
the post-storm flooding, the CFISD community showed an incredible amount of
generosity in the live auction, freezer sale and via additional monetary contributions
to students.
Cypress Falls High School senior Jessica Byrd’s Grand Champion
Swine sold to Conda Maze JRP LLC for $31,000, which
set a new record at the CFISD Livestock Show and Sale.
The Premium Sale (live auction) unofficially raised nearly $340,000. Final amounts
from the Freezer Sale (animals not placing high enough for the live auction), Agriculture
Mechanics and Horticulture silent auction and additional gifts to students
are not yet available, but one new record was broken:
Conda Maze JRP LLC paid $31,000 for the Grand Champion swine exhibited by
Jessica Byrd (Cypress Falls), eclipsing the previous record.
“Knowing the tremendous hardship (Hurricane Harvey) placed on the community,
we were prepared for participation to be down,” said Denise Kubecka, lead
curriculum coordinator in the career and technical education department. “When
it came time for students to turn in their entries, we realized our numbers would
once again be strong. In the wake of all going on in the community, families found
a way to keep their children involved in the FFA program. It is always an emotional
experience for me to watch the pride the students exhibit as they walk into that
arena. This year was even more exciting knowing the extra obstacles many students
had to overcome.”

Job Awareness Fair
JA INSPIRE MODELS CAREER AWARENESS TO 9,000 EIGHTH-GRADE STUDENTS
Approximately 9,000 students from 18 CFISD middle schools connected
to potential careers and opportunities in Junior Achievement
of Southeast Texas (JASET)’s fifth annual job awareness fair,
JA Inspire, Feb. 5 th -7 th .
The three-day event at the Berry Center allowed all eighth-grade
students to interact with more than 50 Houston businesses in a
variety of industries.
Each day began with a morning welcome session for all students in
the Berry Center arena. Students were then divided in three groups
that rotated between industry presentations in the conference
center, a soft-skills demonstration in the arena and exhibitors in
the second-floor concourse.
Students were divided up by four endorsement tracks (STEM, business
and industry, public services and arts and humanities) that
they selected beforehand to receive a more specialized experience.
While exploring career stations on the concourse, students spoke
with company employees and industry representatives to learn
more about their businesses.
Speakers in different career fields closed each day. They included
KPRC Channel 2 anchor Rachel McNeill, a Cypress Creek High School
graduate and Heritage Texas Properties realtor associate Lily Jang,
a Langham Creek High School graduate.
“Our eighth-grade students are fortunate to be able to participate
in an interactive experience that provides them with information on
a variety of careers and local employers from the greater Houston
area,” said Dr. Linda Macias, associate superintendent of curriculum
and instruction and accountability. “This will assist them in making
informed decisions when selecting an endorsement and course
selections for high school.”

Mother’s Day Market

Calling all vendors! The 2 nd Annual Mother’s Day
Market & Car Show presented by Cypress Springs
FFA Booster Club will be held on Saturday, April
21, 2018 between 9 AM-5 PM & Sunday, April
22, 2018 between 10 AM-4 PM. This event will
be advertised in various media outlets. We are
also working on entertainment and radio spots
to generate business and excitement this year.
Indoor booths are $110 and outdoor booths

Springs FFA students in attending state convention,
competitions and creating scholarships for

CCS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE COLLEGE BOARD
AP CAPSTONE DIPLOMA PROGRAM
CCS is one of approximately 1,500 high schools worldwide to implement
the AP Capstone Program - an innovative program that allows
students to develop skills that matter most for college success,
such as research, collaboration and communication. Developed
in direct response to feedback from higher education faculty and
college admission officers, AP Capstone complements the in-depth,
subject-specific study of other Advanced Placement courses and
exams. The program consists of two courses taken in sequence: AP
Seminar and AP Research.
STATE REPRESENTATIVE HONORS WARRIOR FOOTBALL
State Representative and CCS parent, Dr. Tom Oliverson visited the
campus recently to honor the Cypress Christian Warriors football
team. He presented each player and coach with a certificate of honor
for accomplishing something that had never been done in school
history, bringing home the TAPPS Division III State Championship
trophy for football. The school was also presented with a Texas
flag that was flown at the Capitol of the Sovereign State of Texas.

Call For Artists: Bayou City Art Festival
Memorial Park 2018
Bayou City Art Festival, produced by Art Colony Association, Inc. (ACA),
is inviting artists from around the country to submit applications and
have the opportunity to showcase their art at the nation’s premier
spring outdoor fine art event Friday-Sunday, March 23-25, 2018.
ACA produces Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park in the spring and
Bayou City Art Festival Downtown in the fall. Now entering its 47 th year,
ACA has provided a venue for over 20,000 artists to showcase their
work to thousands of art lovers from all over the world. Patrons have
the opportunity to personally meet the artist, view original works and
purchase world class art. The festival benefits local non-profits and
features music, food, beverages, entertainment, a Children’s Creative
Zone and much more for people of all ages to come and enjoy the city
and the festival.
Twice a year, over 1,000 qualified applicants from 19 different disciples
submit their applications to be reviewed by the ACA jurors. For each
festival, a new juror panel is invited and consists of artists, collectors
and industry professionals. The panel of five to seven jurors are selected
based on their specific interests, professional knowledge and
background with the festival. Only 300 artists will be selected to exhibit
at the 2018 Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park. Cash Prizes are
awarded for “Best in Show,” second and third, as selected by on-site
judges. Ribbons are awarded for “Best Booth” and all winners receive
jury exempt status for two years as well as priority booth placement.
Volunteer and sponsorship opportunities are available. For more

Participating restaurants are assigned a classic automobile or vintage
wooden boat. The chef of each restaurant then selects a specific wine
that they believe matches the classic automobile or boat. Each chef then
prepares a custom hors d’oeuvre that is paired with the wine to complete
the epicurean experience for attendees to sample.
The “Uncorked” event will also feature luxury items and experiences in
the form of a live and silent auction. Auction Co-Chairs Patty Peeples
Busmire and Karen Deguerin invite guests to bid on lavish packages
including fine wines, spa getaways, hotel and resort stays, dinner certificates,
autographed collectibles and much more. Proceeds from the

Show and Rodeo is the world’s largest livestock
Show and rodeo. With more than 33,000 volunteers,
the organization is a Section 501(c)(3) charity that
benefits youth, supports education and facilitates
better agricultural practices through exhibitions
and presentations. Since its beginning in 1932, the
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has committed
nearly $450 million to scholarships, research,
endowments, calf scramble participants, junior
show exhibitors, School Art participants and other

March 3rd - The Houston Area Women’s Center
(HAWC) is proud to kick off our 30th Annual Race
Against Violence presented by Verizon! This

March 4th - AIDS Foundation Houston, Inc.(AFH)
hosts the 29th Annual AIDS Walk Houston on
Sunday, March 4, 2018, at Sam Houston Park in

HOUSTON AREA EVENTS AND ROAD TRIPS
This signature event is the city’s single greatest
response in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Funds raised
help local HIV/AIDS service organizations provide
programs and services to almost 30,000 Houstonians

fundraiser will culminate in a free outdoor concert
featuring live performances from Houston-based

kayak race - the 46th Annual Buffalo Bayou Partnership
Regatta. Paddlers (ages 12 and up) are

or paddling for pleasure, you won’t want to
miss out on this longstanding Houston tradition!

March 18th - Tour de Houston Presented by
Apache Corporation is a fundraising bike ride
that benefits Houston’s Reforestation Program.
The ride will take place Sunday, March 18, 2018.
This annual event offers Houstonians and visitors
a unique way to view the city with bike routes
winding through Houston’s historic neighborhoods,
scenic districts and parks. With three ride
length options, the Tour de Houston is the perfect
event for leisure riders or cycling enthusiasts. In
addition, it is a BP MS 150 recommended training
ride. This event begins and ends in Hermann

CHILDREN’S EASTER FESTIVAL
Cornerstone United Methodist Church invites
and welcomes our community friends and
neighbors along with our own “Family of Faith”
to join us for our annual Children’s Easter Festival
on Saturday, March 31 st , from 9 to 10:30
AM. There will be games and activities for the
whole family including inflatables, crafts, face
painting, pictures with the Easter Bunny and
more. Of course, there will be an Easter Egg Hunt
for various age groups as well. Cornerstone UMC
practices being cheerful and generous givers. If
you are able, please bring a non-perishable food
item to be given to a local charity that provides
food to those in need our local community.
HOLY WEEK WORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Holy Week represents the last week of Jesus’ life
on earth, beginning with his triumphant entry
into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and culminating
with his glorious resurrection from the dead the
following Sunday, Easter. This year Holy Week is
from Sunday, April 9 th through Sunday, April
16 th . During this week, Cornerstone United
Methodist Church will be offering a variety of
worship and fellowship opportunities. You are
invited to the following Holy Week worship
opportunities for young and old alike planned
at Cornerstone UMC:
PALM SUNDAY SERVICES (March 25 th ): At the 10:45
AM service, the children will lead a processional in
worship waving palm branches as we remember
and celebrate Jesus entry into Jerusalem. Also at
the 8:30 and 10:45 AM services, the Chancel Choir
accompanied by an orchestra will be performing
their Easter Cantata: “Once Upon a Tree!”. There will
be NO 9:35 AM service but there will be “Christian
Education for All Ages” at 9:30 AM.
MAUNDY THURSDAY COMMUNION SERVICE
(March 29 th ): The word Maundy literally means
“command,” reminding Christians that Jesus
commanded his followers at the Last Supper
to “do this in remembrance of me.” At 6:30 PM,
a Seder Meal hosted by Rev. David Rucker will
be celebrated in the Family Life Center. Holy
Communion will be served.
GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE (March 30 th ): At 7 PM,
we will gather to commemorate the crucifixion
of our Lord with the Stations of the Cross and the
blackening of the sanctuary. Special music for
the service will be provided by the Chancel Choir.
EASTER SUNDAY MORNING SERVICES (April
1 st ): At 8:30 & 10:45 AM, we will have inspiring
services with the Chancel Choir and an accompanying
orchestra providing the special music.
At the 9:35 AM service, the Journey Praise Band
will lead the celebration of Christ’s resurrection.
THE FIVE LOVE LANGUAGES
Cornerstone United Methodist Church will be
offering to the community a study on Gary
Chapman’s renown “The 5 Love Languages:
The Secret to Love That Lasts” starting on
Tuesday, April 10 th at 7-8:15 PM. This study
reveals how different people express love in
different ways and contains the key to understanding
each other’s unique needs. What
speaks love to you may be meaningless to
your spouse. Apply the right principles, learn
the right language and soon you’ll know the
profound satisfaction and joy of being able to
express your love and feel truly loved in return.
Each week the group will view a teaching by
Dr. Chapman and have the opportunity to
discuss the principles taught both in the small
group and with your spouse. Singles are also
welcome as there will be opportunity to apply
the teaching to relationships with children,
parents and other significant people in one’s
life. Classes will last for 75 minutes and a
nursery for preschool children will be available
by advanced reservation. Each participant
will need a small-group study book, which
can be purchased from the church. The cost
is $10 per book.
Note: Vacation Bible School will be
June 11 th -15 th .

St. Cuthbert Episcopal Church welcomes all

PALM SUNDAY, MARCH 25 TH : at 8 AM and 10:30
AM with Holy Communion and the Liturgy of
the Palms. Palm Sunday remembers Jesus’
triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
MAUNDY THURSDAY, MARCH 29 TH : at 7 PM
with Holy Communion and the Stripping of
the Altar. This service commemorates the
Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles.
GOOD FRIDAY, MARCH 30 TH : at 9:30 AM we
will meet at Goforth Park, 9118 Wheat Cross
Drive, to walk the Stations of the Cross. During
this time, we will recall the series of events at
the end of Jesus’ life from his condemnation
to his burial. All ages are welcome. At 7 PM, at
the church, there will be a Good Friday Liturgy
with Communion from the reserve sacrament.
EASTER SUNDAY, APRIL 1 ST : we invite everyone
to celebrate the risen Lord! Holy Communion
and baptisms at 8 AM and Holy Communion
at 10:30 AM. After each service there will
be an Easter Egg hunt for all children.

SHALOM CYPRESS
Shalom Cypress was established in 2011 by local families seeking a
Jewish presence in Northwest Houston. We are the closest synagogue
within 25 miles of the nearest synagogue. Many thought that they were
the only Jews in the Cypress area, but it turns out that they were wrong!
Shalom Cypress has grown to more than 30 affiliated families.

Singing in a children’s choir is a great way to help that. The St. Elizabeth
Ann Seton Schola Cantorum is currently accepting children Grades 4-12
for its after-school choir program. The choir is responsible for enriching
the Mass on 10:30 on Sundays and rehearses every Wednesday from
3:45-5 PM. Unique in the area, the choir focuses on singing music from
the rich Catholic tradition, including chant and polyphony, as well
as the finest modern church music. Time is devoted to building the
children’s skills of music reading, vocal technique, thinking about the
words and the structure and meaning of the Mass. Service hours are

FORWARD BASKETBALL HIGH SCHOOL GUYS
Be a part of one of our basketball leagues. Practice/Games will be on
Monday, Tuesday or Thursday nights. Evaluations to help set the
teams will be March 2 nd , 6 th , 7 th and 9 th from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM in our
Gym. You can register online. Look for Forward Basketball and click on
it. We will have registration forms available in the church office and in
the Student Ministry area. Practices begin the week of March 20 th and
the league runs through May 1 st . The cost of Forward Basketball is $25.

MEN’S OUTWARD FLAG FOOTBALL
Come join men 18 years and older for our Outward Flag Football league
coming this spring at Bear Creek Baptist Church. Practice/Games will
be on Saturdays. The league will have a tournament at the conclusion
of the season. Evaluations for all players will be Saturday, March 17 th
from 10-11 AM and Tuesday and Thursday, March 20 th and 22 nd from
6:30-7:30 PM. These will take place on the fields behind the church. Cost
for the league will be $40 per player covering cost of officials and jersey.
Games will begin April 7 th and conclude on May 12 th . You can register

ADULT SOCCER
Join us for a new adult soccer league! This leagues is open to men and
women, age 18 and up. There will be a skills evaluation on Saturday,
March 10 th from 10-11 AM to assist in making equal teams. This

Games will begin on April 7 th and conclude on May 12 th . Cost for the
league will be $40 per player. This will include a jersey.

This summer, kiddos age 7 to 14 can participate in half day summer

1 (16 ounce) can pears in juice
1 (15 ounce) can peaches in juice
1 (15 ounce) can pitted cherries in water
1 cup quick-cooking oats
1/2 cup brown sugar, divided
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons butter, cut in small pieces
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking
dish. Pour pears, peaches and cherries with their liquids into the prepared baking
dish, stir.
Stir oats and 1/4 cup brown sugar together in a bowl, sprinkle over the fruit mixture.
Sprinkle remaining 1/4 cup brown sugar over the oat layer. Sprinkle cinnamon over
the brown sugar. Arrange butter pieces evenly over the top. Bake until hot, bubbly
and slightly brown at edges, about 20 minutes.
Serve over waffles, pancakes, scones or shortbread.
Also great served warm over vanilla ice cream!

1 cup roasted peanuts

In a medium heat-proof bowl, melt together the chocolate chips and condensed
milk in the microwave. Stir frequently until melted and smooth. Stir in the peanuts
and rice cereal until well blended. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto waxed paper.

front desk, to nursing unit assistance, helping discharge patients and
much more. Dozens of volunteers have already joined the program,
but there are more spots available. Four-hour volunteer shifts are
available seven days a week from 5 AM to 9 PM. Adults are asked to
complete an application and schedule an interview with the volunteer

Special Cheers Needs Volunteers
Special CHEERS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to
providing Occupational Therapy to children with special needs of all ages
living in and around the greater Houston area. Our facility is unique in that
we utilize animals, including horses, dogs, goats, pigs, lambs and rabbits
as an integral part of each child’s therapy treatment plan. Being a nonprofit
organization, we are constantly looking for extra help around the
farm. Therefore, Special CHEERS would like to welcome all high school
and college-aged students interested in working with both children and
animals to volunteer after school, on the weekends or seasonally (i.e.,

Foster Children: Preparation
For Adult Living (Pal)
When foster children reach age 18, they are considered independent.
That’s difficult for kids who have been wards of the state, with necessities
arranged by caseworkers with state funds. Now they’ll have to figure out
how to organize themselves and make their money last a whole month.
Fortunately, Child protective Services offers them a program to help
prepare for independence: Preparation for Adult Living (PAL). The year-long
course culminates in an all-day workshop hosted by the National Council
for Jewish Women (NCJW). The course is held at Junior Achievement’s
BizTown, using computer kiosks sponsored by local businesses.

Dachshund Rescue
DREAM Dachshund Rescue, Education & Adoption Mission is a Houstonbased
501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing abandoned
Dachshunds and finding new homes for Dachshunds whose owners can
no longer care for them. Our committed volunteers, working closely with
local veterinarians, provide our Dachshunds with quality medical care
and loving foster homes until they are adopted into carefully screened,
forever homes.
DREAM is currently looking for caring volunteers to provide temporary
foster care for our many rescued Dachshunds-in-need, currently awaiting
adoption. Prior to their adoption, DREAM continues to pay for all medical

We are a foster-based rescue for dogs and cats. If you are not ready to
commit to adopting a dog or cat permanently, the animals also need
foster families. Besides providing food, water and a safe place to sleep,
foster families socialize the animals so they are people friendly. Include
the animal in your daily home life inside your home. Get to know them as
individuals so you can share personality traits, likes/dislikes, anecdotes.
Treat the animal like your own and train him/her, if possible.
Although you may feel sadness when your foster animal is adopted, please
know that your efforts helped to prepare the cat or dog for his/her forever
home.

Copper Creek Meadows Community
Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5 (must be in kindergarten) through
18 who are willing to accept the Girl Scout Promise and law. Copper Creek
Meadows Community serves girls in the residence areas for the elementary
schools listed below, as well as the corresponding middle and high schools.
Home schooled and private school students are always welcome. Our
elementary schools are: Birkes, Fiest, Hairgrove, Horne, Kirk, Lee, Lieder,

through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life skills which help

Counsel - Copperhead District which includes 23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5
to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to 18 years old) and 10 Venturing
units (boys and girls from 14 to 21). Our Units typically meet weekly.
Many of our units are supported by the local Elementary Schools including:
Birkes, Copeland, Duryea, Fiest, Hemmingway, Holmsley, Horne, Jowell,
Lowery, Metcalf, Owens, Postma, Robinson, Sheridan, Tipps, Walker and
Wilson.
Other Community groups include: Autumn Creek Baptist Church, Beck and
Masten Automotive, Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Copperfield
Church, Crossbridge Church, Cy-Fair Kiwanis Club, Deerfield Village HOA,
