Spring & Summer Events Vintage Days including Vintage Base Ball April 29, noon-4 pm All tours self-guided. Included with a self-guided tour admission. Travel back in time during Vintage Days at Stan Hywet. In the Manor House, friends, business associates and staff members of the Seiberling family are eager to tell you about life in the 1920s on an American Country Estate. Played by our Stan Hywet Historic Players troupe, this interactive tour takes place on select dates throughout the season. Then enjoy a game of vintage “base ball” on the Great Meadow from 1-3pm as our resident team, the Akron Black Stockings, take on the Mansfield Independents. JUNE Photography Walk with Ian Adams June 2, 2-4 pm Members: $25, non-members: $34 Bring your iPhone, Android phone or digital camera and join Ohio landscape photographer, writer and educator Ian Adams for a photography walk in the gardens at Stan Hywet during late spring. Mr. Adams will provide tips on landscape and garden photography and coaching for each participant. Saturday at 1pm: Yoga for 12-Step Recovery Open to anyone dealing with their own addictive behavior or affected by the addictive behavior of others, Yoga for 12-Step Recovery combines the practical tools of the 12-step recovery program with the physical and spiritual practice of yoga. Certified Y12SR and RYT-200 yoga instructor Ann Durr will guide participants through meditation and movement alongside music provided by Rock-n-Recovery powered by 91.3 The Summit. GARDENING GURUS Adult Workshops The workshops are intended for adults who have an interest in creating and maintaining both functional and beautiful home spaces. The Gardening Gurus are members of Stan Hywet’s Horticulture Team and/or Master Gardeners who have expertise in and a passion for the art, science and tools of successful gardening. Workshops meet on Saturdays throughout the growing season. All programs include Self-Guided Grounds admission is included in the cost. Wondrous Wildflowers April 21, 10:30am-12noon Meet in the Carriage House Courtyard Members $10, non-members $13 Register by April 14 Spring means that beautiful wildflowers are in bloom. Explore both garden and natural areas in search of these ephemeral plants. Learn how to identify wildflowers and discover the benefits of planting them in your own garden. Consult with a Stan Hywet horticulture staff member and learn some planting and design tricks in a variety of container sizes, to achieve the best “look” for your garden. Gardening Gurus: Bees & Butterflies – Pollinators of Stan Hywet July 14 – 10:30am – 12:30pm Butterfly Habitat / Pollinator Garden Members $10, non-members $13 Register by July 7 Discover everything there is to know about pollinators and why they are important to the environment. The class includes a tour of Stan Hywet’s pollinator garden and butterfly habitat, where you’ll gain a better understanding of how to choose plants that provide an abundance of food for our pollinator friends. Then visit Stan Hywet’s bee hives on the estate, maintained by Urban Honey Bee, to see the inside of a working honey bee hive. Grounds admission is included. Father’s Day Classic, Antique & Collector Car Show June 17, 9am-4:30pm, All Estate Members $11 adults/$5 youth; non-members $14 adults/$6 youth. Children 5 & under are free. No parking on site; free offsite parking and free shuttle will be listed on our web site. Celebrate Father’s Day at an Akron tradition and one of the oldest car shows in America. The 61st annual Classic, Antique & Collector Car Show at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens features over 400 antique, vintage and collector cars. The special feature is a British Invasion Class and the Inner Circle returns after a one-year hiatus – in front of the Manor House with Full Classics from 1915-1919. Enjoy the gardens, including Playgarden and be one of the first to see the butterflies on opening day. Gala: Beautiful Bounty June 22, 6pm-midnight See inside front cover for details. Witchee Hat Adult/Child Needlepoint Workshop July 10, 9:30am in the Carriage House Auditorium Pat Cermak, Designer/Instructor Cost: $23.50. Includes one kit and one child’s lunch. Accompanying adult (each child must bring along a grown-up!) may purchase lunch for $8.50 per person. Register by June 25. Bring your children to this fun canvas workshop. The Witchee Hat is done on 10 count fabric with perle cotton, beads and ribbon as decoration. Participants should bring basic sewing supplies, light and magnification, if needed. Accompanying adults must stay with the children during the workshop and assist them with their project.
