PAULA SIMPSON I have worked as a textiles teacher for many years in secondary education. My recent move to Somerset has allowed me to further develop my creative journey – it is my ‘Unfolding Story’. The diploma in Patchwork and Quilting gave me an exciting opportunity to extend, experiment and develop my skills in textiles. My final work, inspired by the ‘Swinging Sixties’ was exhibited at the Festival of Quilts (2015) in the City and Guilds student gallery, and with my ‘Threaded Together’ group in Bristol and Henley. I enjoy the support and encouragement from like-minded people and I am a member CQ West and local textile groups. Recently I have been inspired by the ‘Slow Stitch’ movement and I enjoy creating textile pieces with a needle, natural cloth and thread. The colours and textures of natural fibres and fabrics inspire me and enable me to enjoy the creative process. Over the years I have collected fabrics which are bound with memories of my family and life, my current work is an expression of these memories. I love to share ideas, teach and help people on their creative journeys and have developed a range of courses which I hope will help to keep the traditional and contemporary skills of patchwork and quilting alive. I am available for individual and group tuition in the area of creative textiles. Please get in touch. Facebook: Paula Simpson Textiles

Harmony and Discord This piece was created as a Memory Cloth for my son and reflects the 'troublesome teenage' years. The title reflects his love of music and family life as he grew up and found his independence. The memorabilia sewn into this piece, with love, reflect his hobbies and interests and to quote the words of Kahlil Gibran; “You may give them your love but not your thoughts, for they have their own thoughts”...not always in harmony with our own!
