'Business is Awesome'

'Business is Awesome' workshop Business This year has been a challenging year for the Business Department. Ranjili Mudaliar, our Head of Department who has been at Mangere College for 19 years, left to teach at St Kentigern College. However, her position was filled by the very capable and experienced Mrs Parwati Reddy. Throughout this year, students of the Business Department have been busy with creating new ideas and products. During Term 1, Business students were invited to a workshop called ‘Business is Awesome’ organized by the Rotary Club. Students mixed with other schools and formed groups in which they were to come up with business ideas. Tausala Faaloga won a prize for her contribution in the workshop. year 10 product launch day Market day by Year 10 was a hugely successful event. The students were very excited and sold out all their products. They happily kept their profit and said that it was a great experience. Cultural Exchange Mary Maea and Mark Leleifi (pictured above) have been awarded a Kiwi–Dragon Cultural Exchange Scholarship. This is a 10 day visit to China where they will learn about Chinese culture, language, food, people and gain an insight as to how business in China is run. We are looking forward to them sharing this insight with us on their return. 40 Mangere College - 2017

Young Enterprise Scheme clever 7 A very successful and exciting business created this year was called ‘Clever 7’. Their product was a Pet Bed made out of recycled tyres and clothing which was applauded by the judges. The group were rewarded for their hard work with a regional award from the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) for Excellence in Sustainability. S.A.L.T Our Year 13 Business group was invited to present their ideas to ‘Nga Manga o Mangere’ - a local network meeting. One group (CIDANZ) from this organization was so impressed with ‘S.A.L.T.’’s Kanban Planning Board that they offered a cash donation of $110 towards the business. silent sisters Another group, the ‘Silent Sisters’ pitched their business idea of providing services to young and vulnerable teenagers in front of the Dragons’ Den.
