THE BOOK OF TELLS
walking on tiptoe she's discreetly trying to make her legs
look longer.
In addition to increasing the apparent length of a woman's
legs, high heels also arch her back. This arching of the back
is similar to 'lordosis' in the animal world. In certain animal
species lordosis acts as a sexual releaser - female hamsters
and guinea pigs, for example, will arch their back to show a
male that they are sexually receptive. When a woman sticks
out her bottom and arches her back it has the same arousing
effect on a man - that's why 'girlie magazines' are full of
pictures of women in this posture. When a woman finds a
man attractive she sometimes reveals her feelings by arching
her back. This may occur while she's standing up, sitting
down, or leaning forward and supporting her weight on the
table. The action may be almost imperceptible, but it shows
that she's sexually attracted to him.
Spatial Tells
The way that a man and a woman arrange themselves
spatially says a lot about what each of them is hoping to
achieve, and about which stage they have reached in their
relationship. As a rule, the closer people are to each other
physically, the closer they are emotionally and sexually.
This also applies to how directly or obliquely they orient
their bodies towards each other. During the early stages
of courtship both individuals need to treat the other
person's space with caution and respect, making sure
not to move in close before the other person has given
them clearance. One of the moves that people use
to gauge the other person's reactions is the 'quick-step'.
