WEMPE ZEITMEISTER Chronograph
The Art of Capturing Time
Glashütte, 18 September 2006 - Watchmakers first successfully combined a mechanical
stopwatch function and an automatic movement in 1969. An additional mechanism makes
it possible to start the centre second hand, to stop it, and to return it to its starting
position. If the start-stop button by the “2” is pressed, the chronograph’s seconds hand
begins to move, measuring the duration of an ongoing interval. If the button is pressed a
second time, the hand’s motion is halted and the elapsed time can be read from the dial.
Counters on smaller subdials measure the elapsed minutes and hours. Furthermore, a
ring-shaped tachymeter scale allows the calculation of average speeds, e.g. at car races.
The Wempe Zeitmeister Chronograph is powered by an automatic movement based on
the Valjoux calibre 7753. To improve accuracy, this movement is fitted with specially
constructed fine adjustment components at Glashütte Observatory. An exclusive addition
to the new Zeitmeister collection, this timepiece is the first wristwatch chronometer that
has been tested according to the Germany's DIN industrial standards and simultaneously
equipped with a chronograph function.
