Animal Care Clinic partners
with Pets of the Homeless
Police: Homer Glen man
charged with three counts
of child pornography
Submitted by Pets of the Homeless
Animal Care Clinic of Homer Glen
was welcomed by the national nonprofit
Pets of the Homeless as a new
donation site. Donations of pet food
and supplies can be taken to the clinic
at 13061 W. 143rd St. in Homer Glen
that will be delivered to a local food
bank, homeless shelter or homeless
encampment.
The program is an ongoing national
effort to regularly supply donated
pet food to local people who cannot
afford to properly provide for their
pets.
Over the course of a year, millions
of people have become homeless,
with numbers rising. Approximately
80 percent of people who experience
homelessness are homeless for
a short period of time and usually
need help finding housing or a rent
subsidy. But unfortunately, for those
with pets, it becomes more difficult,
forcing them to choose between their
pet and a roof over their head.
Surprisingly, most choose to stay
on the streets with their pets for longer
periods of time. Their pets are
their comfort, provide an emotional
bond of loyalty and are nonjudgmental.
It is estimated that one in four
homeless and disadvantaged people
have a pet. Pets of the homeless do
not choose their guardians. A difference
can be made to aid these pets.
More than 17,641 pets have been
medically treated through the assistance
of Pets of the Homeless,
and 534 tons of pet food collected
and distributed. There are more than
467 donation sites nationwide. Pets
of the Homeless has provided over
$675,663 in emergency veterinary
care to pets of the homeless.
Pets of the Homeless believes in
the healing power of companion
pets and of the human-animal bond,
which is very important in the lives
of many homeless. They find solace,
protection and companionship
through their pets. They care for their
pets on limited resources so they
themselves have less.
The nonprofit’s task, nationwide, is
to feed and provide basic emergency
veterinary care to their pets and thus
relieve the anguish and anxiety of
the homeless who cannot provide for
their pets. For more information, visit
After investigations
by the Will
County State’s
Attorney’s Office,
a 22-yearold
Homer Glen
man was charged
Feb. 27 with three Plechsmid
counts of child
pornography, according to Will
County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman
Kathy Hoffmeyer.
Phillip Plechsmid, 22, of the
12000 block of W. Rosewood
Drive, was charged after the
State’s Attorney’s Office initial
investigation in February 2017
was alerted to a suspicious IP
address in Illinois, Hoffmeyer
said. A full investigation reportedly
began in May 2017,
and a search warrant was obtained
for child pornography at
Plechsmid’s address in Homer
Glen.
Will County Sheriff’s detectives
and investigators from the
State’s Attorney’s Office entered
the home and spoke with
Plechsmid, and a laptop computer
was seized at the home,
according to police. During a
forensic examination, several
illicit videos were discovered,
Hoffmeyer said.
On Feb. 27, a warrant was
issued for Plechsmid for the
three counts, and his bond was
reportedly set for $50,000, with
10 percent to apply, which was
posted.
He had a court date scheduled
for Thursday, March 8.
ADVENTURE
From Page 3
ing on group events as they
bring all the production experience
to Legacy Adventure
Park that Zombie Army
Productions brings to its
haunted houses. The park
can be used for bachelor
parties, company events,
birthday parties and more.
When it opens April 14, the
park will be designated for
reservations only of groups
of at least eight people. On
May 12, the park will be
open for individuals on the
weekends.
A few years ago, Zombie
Army Productions made a
family film on the property
called “Adventures of Kitty
Zombie,” which is now being
distributed. Currently,
they’re in pre-production
for another film he hopes to
start shooting on the Legacy
Adventure Park property in
2019.
“When I came back [to this
used in paintball fields at the Legacy Adventure Park.
property], it truly felt like I
was going to another land,
another world,” Laflamboy
said. “It felt transformative
driving through this property.”
The more he got to thinking,
the more he wanted to
utilize the land and do something
that hasn’t been done
before.
“What kind of adventures
would we enjoy having out
here?” Laflamboy said.
Park, which has been a year
in the making.
“I’m not doing anything
on this park that I don’t enjoy
playing,” he said.
The Lockport native has a
special place in his heart for
his hometown and hopes that
he can create a place that the
community calls their own
and that will also bring people
into Lockport.
“If I can bring people from
far away communities to
experience Lockport, then
that’s great,” Laflamboy said.
As the exciting new
worlds on the 66 acres continue
to unfold before opening
day, game lovers and adventure
seekers have a lot to
anticipate until experiencing
the new addition to Lockport.
