Simply Intro
When starting the sport of bowls the big question is where do I start.
There are so many rules, technicalities, etiquette and much more. For
a person just wanting to start the sport there are just a few tips I would
recommend:
1. Respect the club, greens and members
2. Don't be afraid to ask questions
3. Get that black bowl close to the jack
Bowls is traditionally known as an 'Older Generation' sport, however,
over the past years it is becoming a younger persons sport. The
Australian Bowls team, on average, is younger than the Australian
Cricket Team. It is a sport that anyone, of any age or gender, can
enjoy. There are juniors as young as five playing the sport and
enjoying all aspects of the game.
The ultimate objective for the game is to get your team's bowls closer
than your opposition bowls to the ‘jack’. By correcting where you aim
and how much weight you put behind the bowl you can achieve this
result.
Basic Terms:
Head: Where the bowls come to rest around the jack. The bowls must
be within the boundary and legal.
The “Jack”
All the bowls
In the “Head”
Jack/Kitty: This is the smaller bowl you are aiming to get close too.
This can come in a yellow or white colour and can be called either
“Kitty” or “Jack”.
