Thinking About Membership?
One of the most powerful New Testament
images of the church is the human body,
made up of all kinds of different parts.
Each of the parts have different
strengths, weaknesses, gifts and
vulnerabilities. We work together,
directed by Jesus, who is the head. But a
body would never work if the different
parts were disconnected from each
another. Imagine a pile of disembodied
hands, feet and other body parts; they
wouldn’t be any use at all! The body of
Christ is only effective because of the
connections between the parts. Church
membership is really an outward
expression of the bonds that already exist
between us, because we’re all in Christ.
When we become members of a local
church we are confirming our
commitment to one another. It’s a way of
saying “I belong to this church,” “This is
my spiritual home.” Membership helps
us commit to one another, as we care for
each other, support each other and serve
together.
It’s so encouraging to see that the
number of members has been steadily
growing over the last few years, but our
hope is that everyone who’s a part of
Lansdowne Church will choose to
formalise their commitment by becoming
a member. If you’d like to find out more,
why not join us for Thinking About
Membership, on 18 April at 19:30. This is
a great opportunity to find out what’s
involved in church membership. So come
along, ask your questions and get to know
others who are exploring church
membership.
