SPECIAL EVENTS<br />

• BOOK SALE - The Friends of the Maud Marks Library will hold their next<br />

book sale on Saturday, <strong>April</strong> 28 th at 10 AM until 4 PM. There is a large<br />

selection of hardback fiction and nonfiction, as well as children’s books<br />

and paperbacks. All proceeds will benefit the library.<br />

• CELEBRATE LOCAL ARTISTS - At the library, we love everything about<br />

our Katy community… including our local artists. This <strong>April</strong>, we have<br />

decided it is time to celebrate them! The entire month of <strong>April</strong>, local<br />

artists will be exhibiting their work throughout the library. Meet the artists<br />

at our opening reception on Saturday, <strong>April</strong> 7 th at 6-8 PM. Come view their<br />

paintings and sculptures and get an idea of the viewpoints of our local fine<br />

artists. Also, come learn from them and all about them. Local artists will be<br />

teaching their crafts at our adult DIY workshop, Wednesday Wonders and<br />

Teen Makers. Thank you for supporting our local artists!<br />

• VOLUNTEER AT THE LIBRARY - Volunteer opportunities abound at the<br />

library. Volunteers are needed to help shelve, count patrons and more. We<br />

will be holding our next volunteer orientation on Thursday, <strong>April</strong> 5 th at 5<br />

PM. Students should be in high school and must be able to commit to two<br />

hours a week. If you would like to help in any way, please contact Elizabeth<br />

Herndon at 281-492-8592.<br />

• TEENMAKERS - Teens & tweens in 6 th grade and up are invited to come<br />

MAKE something at the library. This will be a monthly program, which will<br />

include robotics, science experiments, art & crafts and more! This month,<br />

on Thursday, <strong>April</strong> 5 th at 3:30 PM, a local artist will be here to help us create<br />

our own work of art. This is a ticketed program. Tickets will be available 30<br />

minutes prior to the program. Come have fun and MAKE something!<br />

• CHESS WARS - Teens and tweens are invited to join us for Chess Wars!<br />

You played during the summer, now play during the school year! Join us<br />

Tuesdays at 4:45 PM as we battle it out on the chessboard. Come learn<br />

basic strategies and techniques to up your chess game so you too can play<br />

“out of this world.”<br />

• TEEN BOOK CLUB - We have started a teen book club! Teens are invited<br />

to join us on Thursday, <strong>April</strong> 19 th at 4:30 PM as we discuss the All Fall<br />

Down by Ally Carter. If you are interested in joining us, extra copies of the<br />

book are available at the checkout desk.<br />

• FREE TAX ASSISTANCE - Every Monday and Friday through <strong>April</strong><br />

16 th , AARP will be offering free tax assistance to elderly and low-income<br />

individuals. AARP assistance runs from 10 AM to 2 PM.<br />

• YOGA DEMONSTRATION - You asked for it, you got it! The library hosts<br />

classes twice a month. Yoga can be a very relaxing and centering exercise<br />

program. Join us on Saturdays, <strong>April</strong> 7 th at 10 AM and <strong>April</strong> 21 st at 3 PM,<br />

as we learn about the benefits and basic how-to of yoga. Join us as we<br />

exercise our minds and bodies. Registration required.<br />

• DIY CRAFTS: CELEBRATE LOCAL ARTISTS - Make your very own<br />

masterpiece! Join us on Tuesday, <strong>April</strong> 10 th at 2 PM as we welcome a local<br />

artist for an artist talk and workshop. Learn how to make your very own<br />

masterpiece. Seating for this is extremely limited.<br />
