North Suburban YMCA celebrates 50

The North Suburban

YMCA, winner of 11 North

For its golden anniversary,

the Y will host a

Lake Forest Country Day School voted Best K-8 School on the North Shore

Lake Forest Country

Day School is delighted

to be named 22nd Century

Media’s North Shore

Choice Awards Best Private

K-8 Grade School on

the North Shore.

“We are deeply honored

by this recognition,”

said Head of School Bob

Whelan. “This award is

a direct reflection of the

partnership between our

families and the faculty

in delivering the School’s

mission of inspired teaching,

academic rigor, attention

to individual needs,

and a commitment to responsible

citizenship.”

Located on more than

30 acres of property,

LFCDS offers programming

for students ages 2

through eighth grade and

provides a rich and diverse

educational experience

grounded in rigorous academics,

arts, athletics and

social-emotional learning.

Drawing students from

more than 35 local communities,

students across

all grade levels have access

to engaging learning

spaces that include expansive

outdoor classrooms,

a 2,800-square-foot innovation

center, a newly

renovated gymnasium and

a performing arts center

which is currently undergoing

an exciting transformation.

“Teaching and learning

are not by rote here,”

Whelan said. “The classrooms,

technology offerings,

laboratories, art

spaces, and playing fields

all serve as vital staging

grounds for a rich program,

designed to prepare

LFCDS graduates to be

compassionate, independent

thinkers with a strong

sense of personal integrity

and intellectual curiosity.”

An integral part of the

LFCDS experience is the

strong public speaking

strand embedded in the

school’s curriculum beginning

with the youngest

students. Learning the

skills required to be a good

audience member in 1st

STEP builds to extensive

opportunities to present in

front of increasingly larger

groups and culminates

with the Robbie Bermingham

Speaking Competition

in which students in

fifth through eighth grade

research, write, revise

and present a five-minute

speech on a topic of their

choice. During the course

of their time at LFCDS,

students develop their ability

to express themselves,

take risks in a nurturing

environment and cultivate

the self-confidence to present

to large audiences.

LFCDS faculty and staff

live the school’s mission

with unparalleled dedication.

In fact, every faculty

and staff member is able

to recite the mission statement

by heart. Whether for

an open house, a special

speaker series lecture or

an individual campus tour,

visitors to the school experience

the palpable warmth

and caring that is a hallmark

of the LFCDS community.

In short, Lake Forest

Country Day School

fosters an environment in

which students feel empowered

to dream, try new

things, take academic risks

and achieve at their highest

level.

“Research estimates that

60 percent of the jobs our

students will fill have yet

to be created,” Whelan

said. “Our ultimate goal at

LFCDS is to graduate students

who are able to think

critically, self-advocate,

persevere when faced with

a challenge, create and

communicate in innovative

ways, and interpret the

world around them.

“The school endeavors

to help each student craft

a durable foundation that

will provide them with

greater opportunities to

pursue their passions and

make a difference in the

world.”

The power of creative exploration

Innovative new learning space

at Bernard Weinger JCC Early

Childhood Center

At JCC Chicago, they believe that children

are strong, capable and resilient with

a natural curiosity that invites them to explore

the world them. They recognize that

children learn in many ways — through

artwork, dance, music, language and the

written word. In all of their classrooms,

their staff and educators support creative

thinking by providing open-ended materials

that inspire children to ask questions,

investigate the world and share their

knowledge.

At Bernard Weinger JCC Early Childhood

Center in Northbrook, educators

created a space to further nurture this selfguided

approach to learning. The Atelier

is a classroom space where children collaborate

with their peers to explore, create,

inquire, think and grow cognitively

and social emotionally.

Within the Atelier, the teacher facilitates

learning by asking open-ended

questions and by setting the stage with

provocations – materials such as clay,

wire, paint, pens, paper, beads, shells and

other natural materials that invite children

to express themselves. Children work in

small clusters to transform what they have

learned in the classroom into creative displays

of pictures, words and stories.

Recently, children spent time in their

classroom learning about shapes. They

talked about the shapes they see every

day in every space, and focused on circles

and dots. In the Atelier, children built on

what they had learned and what they already

knew. They problem solved to design

structures and build on their intuitive

knowledge of geometry, naturally extending

their exploration of shapes.

The Atelier at Bernard Weinger JCC is

part of what makes their early childhood

experience unique to any other. This designated

space allows children to express

their knowledge using a range of formats

and materials, connect with their peers,

and build trusted relationships with nurturing

educators.

JCC Chicago is honored to be recognized

by their community as the Best Early

Childhood on the North Shore. They

extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who

voted.

Lewis Floor &

Home brings design

ideas to life

Under one roof, customers of Lewis

Floor & Home will find carpet, tile, area

rugs, wood, luxury vinyl flooring, cabinetry,

countertops and window treatments.

Everything their eye, heart, imagination

and budget can desire for their distinctive

home is here along with something else

no one offers — the Lewis reputation for

quality and service. It’s all on premises,

proudly displayed for customer’s one-stop

shopping pleasure in a 26,000-square-foot

showroom and 33,000-square-foot warehouse.

In the beginning, dreams were big, but

capabilities were smaller. First opened

by Earl Lewis in the early 1950’s, the

smallish 800-square-foot facility was devoted

exclusively to carpeting and carpet

cleaning. Since then, three generations

of family members have grown the business,

which has expanded several times

under Steve Lewis’s direction. In 1997,

to better meet their customers’ demand

for greater flooring selection, Steve purchased

the building and property adjacent

to the original location and changed the

company name to reflect even more goods

and services. Now, Lewis Floor & Home

is able to offer tile, wood, vinyl, countertops,

window treatments, a rug gallery

and fine cabinetry.

The rest is history, featuring the absolute

best in home design; fresh new ideas

and fashions and constantly evolving

installation services. They’ve changed

with the times and set the bar, but have

never lost sight of the fundamentals that

have defined distinctions forever: quality

products, a personal touch, community

involvement, price points for every budget,

a world-class caring staff and the best

styles offered. Oh, and one more thing

that has never changed — you can always

find a Mr. Lewis here. Try that in a big

box store.

Everything you should know about

hair loss from Pascal pour Elle

Pascal Ibgui, owner of

Pascal pour Elle Salon for

more than 40 years has

been asked one question

more than any other question

and this is, how does he

deal with hair loss and what

would he recommend?

Well, he has done his

homework and research,

and with the recent solutions

he for the first time

is comfortable in making a

recommendation.

When Ibgui met Andrew

Kashian, the co-founder

and CEO of The Hair

Transplant Experts, he felt

that a partnership finally

made sense. He knew

that The Hair Transplant

Experts technology were

above any others that he researched.

He also was convinced

that they addressed

his biggest concerns which

were down time and the

healing process.

As the top salon in the

North Shore, Pascal pour

Elle needed a partner that

they could trust with their

clients.

After experiencing some

hair loss himself, Ibgui

decided to move forward

with the FUE (Follicular

Unit Extraction) procedure.

When he arrived for his appointment

he was greeted

by a very professional staff.

He was not only impressed

by their quality of customer

service, but the service itself.

He started his procedure

early in the morning

and was done by mid afternoon.

It was overall from start

to finish a very pleasant

and painless experience.

Ibgui even left the day after

his procedure for vacation.

After returning to work the

following week, no one noticed

anything other than a

shorter hair style.

With aggressive expansion

plans for 2018 and

the addition of PRP Hair

Treatments (Platelet Rich

Plasma), PRP Facial Treatments,

and FUE Treatments,

The Hair Transplant

Experts have even

more to offer and are excited

to expand their offering

through their partnership

with Ibgui.

With more than 50 million

men and women suffering

from hair loss in the

United States alone, The

Hair Transplant Experts

are poised to provide clients

confidence with their

hair, an opportunity to feel

like their best selves and

to guide Pascal pour Elle’s

clients and the community

with this helpful service.

For those experiencing hair

loss the best time to act is

early; the longer one waits,

the harder and more expensive

the procedure becomes.

Ravinia Plumbing & Heating celebrates

90 years in business, numerous honors

Ravinia Plumbing &

Heating is celebrating its

90th year in business by

also celebrating its second

consecutive selection as

Best Plumber in the North

Shore as awarded by 22nd

Century Media’s North

Shore Choice Awards.

“This is a great honor

for us,” said David Ariano,

president of Ravinia

Plumbing, “especially

since this award is the result

of voting by our customers

– the people we

have the pleasure of working

with every day.”

This award is just one

of several accolades for

the company. A perennial

Best Pick’s choice, Ravinia

Plumbing recently

earned the Angie’s List

Super Service Award for

the eighth time and is a

five-time winner of Carrier

Corp.’s Presidents

Award.

“These awards are very

gratifying,” Ariano said.

“But what is even more

rewarding is the superior

ratings our customers give

us. Last year, more than 95

percent of our customers

said they would recommend

us. That’s why we

like to think we are the

North Shore’s most trusted

name for plumbing, sewers,

heating and cooling

and electrical service.”

Ravinia Plumbing’s

plumbing services are

designed to keep things

flowing in customers’

homes and businesses.

Services include repair

and replacement of faucets

and fixtures, water

heaters and pipes.

“It’s like having a plumber

in your family,” said one

Winnetka customer.

Other plumbing services

are designed to prevent

homes from flooding

and include repair and replacement

of sumps and

battery back-up pumps,

as well as drain and sewer

line rodding and sewer

line video inspections.

“Our basement flooded

for the first time in 28

years,” a Northbrook customer

said to the company.

“Your response was

quick and wonderful. You

guys rock.”

Ravinia Plumbing also

offers 24/7/365 service

and discounts, extended

warranties and expedited

service through its Home

Care Club. Additionally,

Ravinia Plumbing

possesses all required licenses

and insurance. Its

technicians undergo background

checks and thorough

training. They are

also drug checked.

“Ninety years is a long

time, and we’ve witnessed

a lot of changes,” Ariano

said. “But we love what

we do. We aren’t going

anywhere.”
