DEAR CAG FAMILIES,
AS RE-ENROLLMENT SEASON OPENS NEXT WEEK ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL
11TH, WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO PARTNERING WITH YOU AND YOUR
FAMILY FOR THE 2018-19 SCHOOL YEAR.
Re-enrollment is an investment in your child´s education, but it is also a commitment towards the mission and the vision of
the school. As such, CAG is committed to ensure your investment provides the value-added return our students deserve. Our
mission is the promise we make to offer an authentic bilingual education in a diverse and multi-cultural learning environment
where students are known, valued and safe and to continue in the tradition of providing students with choice to explore
interests and talents in specialized programs, extracurricular activities and with a full array of athletics.
CAG also commits to providing a complete continuum in learning where students and their families can grow up and flourish
from Prekindergarten-12th grade making CAG a home away from home. This educational environment supports a learning
experience that unfolds across the grade levels throughout an expansive campus where students explore learning in
classrooms, in the library, online, in labs, in art studios, on the stage, throughout the outdoor spaces and on the playing fields
and most importantly with teachers, mentors, peers and family who surround them. Indeed, there is no better place in
Guatemala to learn about oneself and the world than right here at CAG!
Next week, you will receive your re-enrollment packet with your youngest child by April 10th that provides a detailed overview
of
Tuition costs for the 2018-19 school year,
What your tuition will cover as far as school improvements, and
New enhancements for the re-enrollment process.
We are committed to making sure a CAG education is meaningful in fulfilling its mission to empower and inspire all of our
learners.
As always, my door is open to you and your family. If you have questions, please feel free to email or stop by the office.
In the tradition of maroon and gray,
CONSTRUCTION
REMINDER FOR CAG
PARENTS
La Universidad del Valle has invested in campus wide
improvements and advancement. With their
donors, they have been engaged in institutional and
master site planning for a number of years. We are
proud to share with our community that UVG will finally
begin the construction on a state of the art Center
for Innovation and Technology (CIT). This project not
only advances the work and research of the
University, but sets the stage for important
developments in formal education that will serve as
compass and inspiration for the work CAG will be
accomplishing in science, technology, engineering,
art/design and math education in the years ahead. We
couldn’t be more proud to be a member of the “Del Valle
Grupo Educativo” and watch the strategic growth of our
institutions flourish as UVG leads the way in creative
platforms.
The construction process for UVG will have minor
impact in the daily routines of CAG students. Together,
CAG and UVG are working to make sure the safety of
CAG students is a priority and the daily schedules
and routines are preserved for the comfort of our
students and the confidence of our families and faculty.
Below are a few important details we want all of our
families to be aware of.
CENTER FOR INNOVATION
AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP
01
02
03
Calendar and Schedule
Construction (demolition) begins after Semana Santa 2018 and will continue until the end of the
2019 calendar year (about 18 months).
Construction schedules are set for 7am through 5pm daily.
Safety and Security
Construction companies and their employees have been vetted by the University and will be working
behind a construction barrier on the UVG campus.
Workers will not have a need to leave the site or to be on the CAG campus.
Our security team has been alerted to these specifics and, as always, will ensure all unauthorized
personnel are not permitted entry.
Traffic and Drop Off
Construction schedules have been established to begin before the CAG school day and to end after
dismissal time. Though we believe the schedule should not impact our high traffic times, we do
expect traffic to be minimally affected at the early stages of construction until routines are fully
established. This is especially true after Semana Santa.
Students entering/exiting the UVG south gate (18 avenida) for drop off and pick up will follow the
same route on the UVG campus. Throughout construction, the walking route through UVG will
include directional signs and monitors to assist our students and their families.
We will add new security measures upon entering UVG specific for CAG students.
This procedure will include new identification lanyards upon entering the UVG campus so we can
ensure our students´ walk through UVG is uninterrupted, timely and safe.
04
Health and Safety
There are protective barriers between the construction site and CAG. There are also buildings at UVG
that buffer direct exposure from the site and CAG campus. However, our preschool campuses are the
closest in proximity to the construction project. As a result, UVG and CAG are working together to
ensure there is low dust and particle impact. Construction companies will be using water sprinklers to
control dust in the air. CAG will be covering open spaces at the roof line of the PreKinder classrooms,
while also making sure there is proper ventilation in the rooms.
The Operations Department will be working with an air quality measuring company and will do daily
checks and record air measures. Should there be a change in air quality, we will alert UVG to respond
and our families for extra precautions.
We expect this large scale construction project to cause some minor inconveniences as most
projects do. We are, however, absolutely committed to ensuring the health, safety and security
of our students is a priority and we are grateful for the partnership with UVG in making sure
we can uphold this expectation with the precautions in place.
Should you have questions or concerns, please contact Cesar Garcia at cgarcia@cag.edu.gt who
will work to respond you your concerns and also will serve as communication liaison to UVG
during this project.
In the meantime, we do encourage you to visit UVG campus or their website to experience the
vision, click here for details. We couldn’t be more proud to be a member of the “Del Valle
Grupo Educativo” and watch the strategic growth of our institutions flourish as UVG leads the
way in creative platforms. The project is
an incredible milestone for the University and an inspiration to CAG. We cannot wait for our
faculty and students to experience the Center for Innovation and Technology in the years
ahead!
Best!
FAMILY
MATH EXHIBIT
BY STEPHANIE CIFUENTES, MS MATH TEACHER
On Friday, March 16th, the Middle School
math classes held a Family Math Exhibition.
Parents and other students were invited to
view student math projects in 6th, 7th, and
8th grade. Visitors to the expo had the
opportunity to view the projects and give
feedback to the students about the math
work they had done. The feedback students
received was very meaningful, and helped
them to grow as math students. Here is a
description of the projects from each grade
level:
In 6th grade, students worked in groups to
create a town budget for the fictional town
of Westerville. They used algebraic
equations and inequalities to keep track of
the different amounts of money they had
to spend in five different areas of the
overall budget.
In 7th grade, the students pretended they
won a spot on a famous interior designing
TV show and were able to recreate the
bedroom or create a dream room. They
practiced ratios and proportions to make a
scale drawing of their room which
included area, perimeter, and scaled
measurements of all of the features in the
room.
In 8th grade, students were asked to use
their creativity and their knowledge of
functions to create a graph and a
corresponding story that describes that
graph. Students demonstrated on their
posters the process of peer revision to
improve their graphs and stories.

CAG UNIFORM
the 2018-19 school year, the school has decided to change the
uniform provider from SPADD to 2 other companies, Cocresa for
the daily uniform and Alma Active for the PE uniform.
We are transitioning from SPADD to the other companies at this
time. What this means for you is that SPADD has a small level of
inventory still in some sizes for the regular and for the PE uniform,
however, they are not producing any more stock at this point in
time.
The school is still finalizing the uniform product with the other
companies to have ready to sell by the second week of May. I
understand that this will create a gap of a few weeks where you
won’t be able to purchase a uniform (daily or PE).
In the case that your child’s uniform doesn’t fit anymore and
SPADD does not have the appropriate size available, the child
should wear a polo style shirt (white, grey or maroon) that matches
as closely as possible the CAG uniform. In the case of the PE shirt,
pant or short, please do the same. For either circumstance, please
notify the principal and vice principal of your child’s section so they
are aware of your situation.
Please do not contact these companies directly, rather, if you have
any questions send me an email at (kpivaral@cag.edu.gt).
I also recommend calling the SPADD store, tel. 2327-9400, before
driving there to see if they have what you need.
I will communicate in April more in relation to locations, dates and
logistics of when the uniform will be available. Our first goal will be
to have uniform sales set up on campus in May for your
convenience.
Thank you for your cooperation and flexibility as we make this
transition.
Best regards,
Kimberly Pivaral
