SPORTS NEWS ROUND UP P&TG Lawn Tennis Club Snow Tennis: It’s been a difficult time since Christmas with the weather not being conducive to a lot of tennis. A number of matches were rained off in January and re-fixed for March only for the ‘Beast from the East’ to intervene. Mind you, the new courts are proving much better at coping with bad weather with, as can be seen in the photo below, Club Coach Neil James not allowing a little snow to prevent him holding his regular Saturday coaching sessions. Indeed the new court surface is proving very popular with the club attracting a number of new members while existing members are finding the wear and tear on their limbs much less intense than with the old hard courts. It’s a good time to join with the new membership year starting in April so why not give it a go and Village Voice April/May 2018 contact any of the Committee or go to the website www.penntennis.net On the subject of weather, the annual old vs young matches were both (men and ladies) hit by the weather and postponed over the Christmas period. The oldie men, however, cunningly re-arranged the match for mid- January just after a number of the members of the young team had returned to university. Some are calling the resultant victory (the second year on the trot) for the oldies somewhat hollow. I would not like to comment. A picture of the victorious oldie team is attached –not sure about those yellow shorts… Andrew Brown P&TGFC Festival of Football www.pennandtylersgreen.org.uk Festival of football 2018.
