Palm Springs Art Museum
is proud to present
Michael Childers:
Having a Ball on view
January 20-May
28, 2018 and shown
in conjunction with
Andy Warhol: Prints
from the Collections
of Jordan D. Schnitzer
and his Family Foundation.
This exhibition
features portraits
by Childers of Andy
Warhol, members
of Warhol’s famous
studio, The Factory,
and participants of
a Los Angeles drag
ball entitled “Flaming
Creatures”. Through
an attention to gestures,
costume, and
telling details, each
of Childers’ photographs
capture both
the persona and the
personalities of his
subjects. The figures
in Childers’s portraits
radiate a cheeky playfulness
as they expose
the artifice of traditional
gender identity
and the joy of self-expression.
