on the wind the family

on the wind the family seemed to be happy, but the girls were missing their mother more than ever. It was hard for them to have to share with the other children and a new mother; but as time went by their thoughts drifted from their mother to focus on having a normal life. Daisy never found her children or John, in addition to this John never found out that Daisy was pregnant with his son, if he knew this thing’s may have been different. Eventually, John started his job in the pit and Betty’s job was to take peoples clothes in and iron them. John treated her to a new iron with electricity to heat it up and it was lighter than the cast iron one that she had previously been using. Betty didn’t enjoy her job and always seemed miserable. Betty wasn’t a very good mother to John’s children; her own children however always came first. She was very lazy, and she also flirted with countless men. Because of this John’s children felt neglected and May soon took over the motherly role to make her sibling feel loved. John had never seen this side of Betty as he worked hard long hours in the pit to provide for the family. As time went on, Bettys boys: Arnold and Sam and her daughter Pearl started to work in

factories and shops, but April and her sisters never bothered asking for details as the family rarely spoke to each other. 24 As May became older she argued a lot with Betty and had many fights with Pearl as they were similar age, she also hated how Betty’s children treated April because of their mother’s insults and behaviour. Ultimately, May decided to leave home. She told her father about the fights that she had and needed to get away. Her father sent her to live with her uncle. May’s uncle owned a shop selling vegetables, bread and lots of other things, so May worked for her keep and she was very happy there. May still went to visit her sisters at weekends but felt as if she had abandoned her sisters. It had been almost a year since the night that April had sat upon her bed and Betty came running in to their house crying. She wished she could go back to those times with all her sisters and her mother’s love. Things were the same for a few years until Aprils other sister Jenny left the house as she hated how April was treated.
