a little safer. The street warden walked around the streets to make sure everyone was safe or assist people if they needed help. When the siren went off, people dashed to safe places, or their shelter’s in the gardens which they had made themselves. Although it was still scary. London was hit the worst, they would listen to the news every day, this was a very sad time for all. April and her friend would sing and act to keep the others happy when they are in the shelters. Sometimes they were in the shelters a long time, so entertainment helped them get through.
Chapter 8 44 1945 War Was Over A great celebration for all. They heard it on the wireless, screams of joy as the town clock chimed, they all rushed to the main streets and everyone danced and cheered with excitement. All was relieved. Deaths of solders, known by friends and families were being remembered and stories were being told. They all danced into the night. A live local music group playing popular music as people danced around them. Most proudly hung the union jack with pride and many assisted in taking tables into the street. A few jumped onto the tables and danced whilst other were shaking hands and hugging. The night went on, people across the country celebrated the important day.
