Chapter 16 The Bad News Mrs James came around to see April and told her they had a letter from the council, it was to say they are demolishing the Manor house and farm along with April’s home, this was such a shock. April was also informed of this, they put up a petition, lots of people signed it; but the council gave them a date for it to go ahead. As the bend in the road was dangerous, the house stuck out, so traffic was not visible, and accidents happened as more traffic was now on the roads. The council have been building a new estate, they offered Mrs James the first home built, the street was named Farm view after her farm, she accepted it. William told April he had seen a house he could now get a mortgage for, they went to look at it and April liked it. It needed a few repairs doing and decoration, the house had potential. So, all ended well. It was a shame about the Manor Farm as it was a very old and historic building. Soon the move came, ‘Happily’ the moves went ahead, the house was bigger than the one before luckily being as April again was pregnant, (New house new baby as they say) she soon made

78 some nice friends and as always helped where she could, she was very happy, William worked hard as money was tight; but the children were happy and well looked after. April had a baby boy they named him Paul, April had her hands full now. This Christmas William said he has not enough money to get much, so he set about making a dolls house, a garage and just bought a few cars and tiny dolls for the house, in the doll’s house was carpets, wall paper and lights run from a battery and tiny furniture, the children shared these and were very happy, a friend came to bring treats and a cake, another friend bought some vegetables and orange’s, this made it very special. May and family came with some gifts and stayed over, which made it a lovely Christmas. Now with 5 children to look after, it was hard work washing, cleaning, meals, shopping and school runs, April was finding it a little hard going, so she asked William if he could learn to drive and get a car it would help as there isn’t enough time in the day, William said he would like to, it would help for holidays too.
