11 Borgmansschool

11 Borgmansschool Architecture • co-housing Assigment: Client: Location: Design: Period: Transformation of a school building Municipality of Groningen / KUUB Groningen DAAD Architects 2017-2018 Groningen city has grown rapidly over the past ten years. This trend continues in the coming years. In addition, living in the inner city is becoming increasingly popular. This does not only apply to young people and students. Also (young) families, over-55s, newly cohabiting and (small) entrepreneurs would like to live in the city center. The heart of the city now offers little space for these target groups. The manifestation ‘WONEN IN STADSHART’ has started to contribute to a varied city center. This is possible because we add quality to the inner-city living environment with the transformation of the former Borgmansschool. The school building will be converted into a special collective courtyard where residents live independently in their own apartment, but also share facilities with each other in the form of a collective kitchen, workshop area, sauna and a guest room. ‘Living in the inner city’ “Transformation of a former school building into a collective courtyard in the city center of Groningen”
