may be divided such that each section contains an eye, or bud. The cut surface is dusted
with a fungicide such as captan before planting. Some tubers produce tiny tubers that are
used for propagating without dividing the tuber. Cyclamen is propagated from seed.
SUMMARY
Certain horticultural plants produce underground structures (e.g., bulbs, tubers, rhizomes,
and corms) by which they may be propagated. Bulbs add color to the landscape
and are most effective when massed in the pot. Bulbs may be planted indoors in containers.
They may be planted as naturalizing plants in lawns to make use of the plot when
the grass becomes dormant in winter. Tubers generally do not produce offsets and are
propagated by division.
