ENG101 – English Composition I (50 Contact Hours/5 ABHES Quarter Credit Hours)<br />

- Prerequisites: None<br />

- Description: The course develops written communication skills with emphasis on understanding the<br />

writing process, analyzing readings, and practicing writing for personal and professional applications.<br />

ENG102 – English Composition II (50 Contact Hours/5 ABHES Quarter Credit Hours)<br />

- Prerequisites: None<br />

- Description: This course builds on the lessons learned in English Composition I. In addition to<br />

reviewing the writing process, students learn research techniques, citation techniques, documentation<br />

formats, and critical analysis of written topics.<br />

ENV101 – Environmental Science (50 Contact Hours/5 ABHES Quarter Credit Hours)<br />

- Prerequisites: None<br />

- Description: The course explores the relationship between man and the environment. Students examine<br />

the balance between natural resources and the needs of mankind. Students explore the scientific,<br />

political, economic, and social implications of environmental science.<br />

HIST101 – American Government and the Nevada State Constitution (50 Contact Hours/5 ABHES Quarter<br />

Credit Hours)<br />

- Prerequisites: None<br />

- Description: This course introduces students to the fundamentals of America government and politics<br />

focusing on the historical evolution of government and policies, the major institutions, and the major<br />

processes. Course goals include developing an interest in today’s government and an understanding of<br />

policy development and politics. Topics include the Constitution, federalism, civil rights and liberties,<br />

the structure and processes of the three branches of government, political socialization, interest groups<br />

and public opinion, political parties and the election process, as well as basic US social, economic, and<br />

foreign policy.<br />

MAT101 – Basic <strong>College</strong> Mathematics (50 Contact Hours/5 ABHES Quarter Credit Hours)<br />

- Prerequisites: None<br />

- Description: The course focuses on the fundamental math skills needed to succeed in a professional<br />

work environment. Topics within the course range include a review of whole numbers, fractions,<br />

decimals, ratios/proportions and percentages. The course finishes with an introduction to geometry,<br />

statistics, and algebra.<br />
