GEORGIA EXPERIENCE | GRADE 5 | CHAPTER 11 Essential Questions ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS CHAPTER OPENER: PART 1 1. Select, or draw from a hat, one of the essential questions, and write it on the whiteboard. (If desired, you can select a new question each day.) • Why does conflict occur? • Who should make the rules? • How do beliefs impact actions? 2. Allow students to discuss the question in small groups. The group should listen and share ideas and possible answers with each other, making sure each student in the group is given a chance to express his or her thoughts and ideas. The group should then come up with one (or several) answers to the question. 3. Ask each group to share one or two answers with the class. Record questions and answers to revisit at the end of the chapter.
