Annual Report 2017[6748]

Annual Report for the year of our Lord 2017 Working with Young People A Ministry Area Youth Alpha Course has been undertaken at the Parish Centre in Sketty, which the young people have really enjoyed, exploring contemporary issues and how to live their lives as Christians. Many of the young people in this group will be presented before the Bishop in May 2018 for Confirmation. The Ministry Area Messy Church, goes from strength to strength, we have found the best time for these sessions is during School Holidays. These sessions are facilitated by Sian Parkhouse (Sketty) with a multi church band of volunteers. We held our traditional Christingle Service in December 2017 which was well supported by occasional visitors, as was the Tea time Crib Service on Christmas Eve. These were joint services between All Souls (Tycoch), St Hilary’s (Killay) and St. Martin’s (Dunvant). Sian Gwynn Lay Worship Leaders January 2017 saw a group of 6 Lay volunteers commissioned as Lay Worship Leaders for the Parishes of Tycoch and Killay. These brave volunteers were Ken Ellis, Sian Gwynn, Mike Powell, Gareth Lewis, John Williams and Barbara Roberts. The team is also supported by Sr Marian from the Parish of Sketty every second month at All Souls. In 2018 the team will be joined by Sarah Harris. Each month the Worship Leaders organise themselves to cover 3 services each month, one service in each church per month. They have prepared a set liturgy but have also been tasked to look at new and interesting forms of worship. We encourage the children to participate whenever possible. There have been guest speakers, Paul Mort from Swansea Hope who organise Night Shelters for homeless people during the bleak mid winter season. These night shelters are set up in churches around the City. Also the Ministry Area ‘Open the Book‘ team came to give a demonstration of how they present the bible in all of our local primary schools. There are many new ideas for 2018 and hope that everyone feels enriched by these services, just as the Lay Leaders are in preparing and sharing in the worship. Annual Report for the year of our Lord 2017 Parish Choir This year the choir attendance at church has been excellent and has been remarked on by several people. It would be an advantage if we had a few more altos and basses. Once again our grateful thanks go to Lynne Novis and Chris Samuel for their constant support and encouragement. On March 5 th , our Vicar was created a Canon in Brecon Cathedral. Some of us made it there but others didn’t through no fault of their own. On Easter Sunday we sang our well-loved anthem “ This Joyful Eastertide”. The harmony for this Dutch tune was written by Dr. Charles Wood. During the Eucharist services we have been able to sing a variety of motets and hymns and hopefully in the future our repertoire will be a little more varied ( with help from Lynne and Chris ). COME AND JOIN US!! Barbara Roberts THE PARISH OF KILLAY (St. Hilary and St. Martin) Church Envelope and Gift Aid Scheme As Envelope and Gift Aid Officer I am responsible for recording all contributions to the Parish whether it is by envelope or direct giving/standing orders. The direct giving arrangement has been taken up by 22 members of the congregation which not only assists the Gift Officer in the amount of administration, but also the gift aid is automatically claimed monthly which increases our ability to manage our finances more efficiently. A further 11 people give via standing orders and 93 people use the envelope scheme. I can reclaim gift aid on some of these contributions depending on whether the people are tax payers. At the end of each quarter I submit our claim for gift aid based on whether individuals pay tax or not. The government recently has allowed us to claim tax on some of the cash collections which again has helped us to pay our way. Thank you very much indeed for your contribution to our Churches, by weekly envelope, standing order, direct giving or donation. Details of your contribution are available from me if required. If you have any queries, please contact me. If you no longer pay tax due to a change in income or tax allowances, please contact me so that I can remove you from tax claim submission.
